Power on password

I was cleaning off my computer when the battery died and it reset the power on password on the computer. Now I have no idea what to use for a password because the one I had set isn't working. Is there a main password that it resets to that I can try to use to get back on?

I have a 2004 Nissan maxima and as I was driving it, the car shut down.No power brakes, steering etc.It would crank but not start

check the alternator. may not be charging. car will run until battery dies and than it will die, since things like computer and other components are not getting power. also cam sensors may cause this, but usually the service engine soon light will light up, if sensor fails.

Skip bios password

Try this Method:

One of the most common methods to reset the BIOS password is to remove or discharge the battery on the computer's motherboard. If the power to the battery is lost or drained, the BIOS configuration will be reset to the factory state with no password. System settings made to the BIOS will also be lost.
Step 1 - Turn off the computer and ensure it has no external power (ie unplug the power cable. If it has a battery, remove it).
Step 2 - Open the computer's case or box.
Step 3 - Locate the computer's motherboard and look for the white silver button battery on the motherboard.
Step 4 - If the battery is not soldered to the motherboard, remove it carefully and wait for approximately 30 seconds.
Step 5 - Put the computer case back together and boot the computer.
Step 6 - If the "CMOS Checksum Error-Defaults Loaded" error message is displayed, the BIOS password has been reset.
In the event the CMOS battery is soldered to the computer's motherboard, you will want to seek a different method to reset the BIOS password on the computer.

I don't remember the Power On Password in my computer. Is there a System to remove this Power on Password?

If your system is prompting you for the Power-On Password there are a few things you can try.

First - remove the Battery and the Power Cord. Next remove the RTC battery. You can find instructions for how to remove the RTC battery from the user guide here: it is on Page 111. Leave all of the batteries and power off/unhooked from the computer. Next, press and hold the power button for at least 30 seconds while there are no batteries or power cables attached. Then allow the computer to sit for at least 5 minutes without the power sources. Finally - replace the RTC battery and then plug in the power cable. DO NOT PUT BACK IN THE MAIN BATTERY YET. Power the computer on and see if the password has been blanked out.

If the power reset fixes the password, then you can put back in the main battery and go about using the computer.

If the power reset does not fix the Power on Password - you will need to contact an HP authorized repair center to get it fixed. This is not a cheap option, but it may be the only way to remove the password. To get started with a repair with HP you can call: 866-234-1377.

I hope this information helps you out!

It's asking me for a BIOS password, it's a Black screen, with a blue box with white lines, It only says "Enter Password" and after three tries, it shuts down. We don't have any idea what the...

The bios password only appers when you press F2 or Del upon powering it ON, so don't press anything when turning it on.

the bios password can be reset and remove its previous password by opening the laptop and remove the CMOS battery inside it, not the physical battery of the laptop, the CMOS battery is a 1inch round battery inside a laptop and computer.

My lenovo x61 show a lock hence does not boot. I had set up a bios password which i can't remember.could u have an idea?

For a desktop computer:
Depending on the motherboard of the computer in question you can:
  • Locate and change the position of a jumper that will clear the BIOS settings.
  • Unplug the machine and pull out the battery that maintains the BIOS settings in RAM.
For the Lenovo x61 and other laptops:
Follow this link to see the laptop manual:

1. Turn off the computer.

2. Remove the battery pack. (See "1010 Battery pack" on page 60 of the above link.

3. Remove the backup battery. (For how to remove the backup battery, see "1140 Backup battery" on page 82 and page 65 of the above link).
3a. You must remove the keyboard and battery pack to access backup battery.
3b. Remove 4 screws with keyboard icon to remove keyboard.
3c. Gently push the keyboard forward.
3d. Then lift up the keyboard slightly.
3e. Detach the keyboard connector.
3f. Remove keyboard.
3g. Disconnect the backup battery.

4. Turn on the computer and wait until the POST ends.
After the POST ends, the password prompt should not appear. The POP has been removed.

5. Reinstall the backup battery and the battery pack and the keyboard.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa.

I cant get into my laptop

If you actually take the backup battery (CMOS bat, not the laptop power battery) out, it resets the BIOS and if there was a password, it comes back....neat stuff!
Or, if the battery dies it can happen so I have read.

To get the password, an electronic circuit is used, called a ROM reader, it reads directly from the security or ROM chip, where the password actually resides> it is not in the BIOS, so cracks and taking the battery out like we always did with tower computers will not work!
That's an excerpt from an article on resetting the password, you have Vista and the old boot from safe mode doesn't work.Your Toshiba might even have a security password embedded in the computer that is impossible to get by.Try removing that memory battery,if it works, the worst you'll have is the need to reset your clock.
