I'm running Mac OS 10.6 on my portable and the MFC-7840W won't priint. I've update all the drivers but when I try to print, the bluetooth window always says, can't find printer. HELP.

The MFC-7840W does not support bluetooth connection.
It can connect wireless if you have a wireless network or connect wireless directly to your airport on the mac.

Since it is not printing, please follow these steps.

    1. Go to the apple icon in the top left of the screen
    2. Select System preferences \ Print and fax
    3. Right click or control click on the list of printers.
    4. Select "reset printing system"
    5. Reboot the computer.
    6. Go back to Print and Fax (step 1 & 2)
    7. Click on the + icon to add a printer
    8. Click on the "default" tab and add the printer.

If you do not see the printer in this list, then printer is not connected.

If you do see the printer in the list but you still can not print, you will need to remove the drivers completely and reinstall.

    1. Go to the apple icon in the top left of the screen
    2. Select System preferences \ Print and fax
    3. Right click or control click on the list of printers.
    4. Select "reset printing system"
    5. Go to Mac HD \ Library \ Printers
    6. move the brother folder to the trash bin
    7. Empty the trash bin.
NOTE: You may need to reboot the computer before you can empty the trash.
    8. Once the trash is empty, reboot the computer.

Now you need to install the following drivers.

    Apple drivers

    Brother CUPS drivers

    TWAIN drivers (optionnal for scanning)

Screen shows wrong URL Safari won't load.

By the way you are stating your issue, I am not sure if you are referring to Safari loading to an incorrect URL and that it is not launching. So to make sure I cover all bases I will provide advice for both.

If Safari is loading to a URL when you first launch it, assuming you are referring to the URL of the Home page you need to see, all you have to do there is launch Safari, click on the Safari name in the menu, select Preferences.
    * Then under General> "Home page:", make sure the home URL is set to the web address you want to see as your home page.

If Safari is not launching on the other hand, here is what you need to do in order to resolve that issue:

    font.f1 {font: 12.0px Helvetica} • From your desktop,
•Click anywhere on a blank space on your desktop. Now you should see Finder listed near the Apple menu icon.

    • From the Finder menu, click on Go, then Home from the
drop-down menu. This will take you to your Home folder.
    • Locate and open the Library folder
    • Within Library folder look for the Preferences folder and open it.

    • Locate and remove to the Trash, these files:
Now click the back button in the Finder window to go back to the Library view.
    * Locate and remove to the Trash, the folder entitled "Caches"

    * Once you have done that, close all windows and other applications, click on the Apple menu icon and select from the drop down menu Logout<username>.
This will take you to the main login window
    * simply log back in to the same user account.

Don't attempt to launch Safari, just yet. Instead run this last procedure to repair file/folder permission on your Mac OS X volume (including Safari)
    font.f1 {font: 13.0px Myriad Pro} -RUN DISK UTILITY FIRST-

    Go to Finder Menu bar
    • Click Go > Utilities > Disk Utility and open up Disk Utility app.
    • Click on Macintosh HD volume (or on the name you have changed
    this volume to.)
    • Select "Repair Disk Permissions"
**Let Disk Utilities run this repair permissions until completion
    - This is not often a necessary step, but in the many of the hands-on software and Mac OS X troubleshooting

    * Once Disk Utility is complete and there are no errors in red in the completion summary (if there are errors listed in red, re-run DU to see if those error will clear- if they don't reply back to this post right away and let me know what the exact error message is), quit Disk Utility.

    • Now relaunch Safari and let's see if it launches ok for you.

If this is still not resolving the issue you are having with Safari, just let me know.

Printer properties dialogue box for mac

Go to the Apple Logo (top left) and choose System Preferences. In the hardware (second) line, choose Print and Fax. You can add printers by choosing the + sign, From here you can choose which printer is the default. You can also choose Printer Setup and paper size

Also, click on the desktop and enter the keystrokes Command (Open Apple) f. Enter print in the search box and scroll down to Applications. You should find the printer utility icon and some other print related icons. You can open these and read the directions. It's hard to be more step-by step since I don't know what you wan to change. Within an application (such as MS Word) you also have the page setup choice under the FILE menu.

    Canon imagePROGRAF W7250

I did not see that there was a response on Apple's support site that adds to the previous post I mentioned. Combing the steps from the two posts, I was able to get our W7250 to print from Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.

Here are the steps I took to get a networked Canon imagePROGRAF 7250 to work with a Mac running Leopard :

    1. Download garo34 print driver from Canon's support site here.
    2. Download the iPF610/iP710 Leopard print driver from Canon here.
    3. Double-click on the garo34_osx.hqx file that you downloaded.
    4. A folder named Driver is created; open it and double click on "GARO Installer for X".
    5. Enter a name and password of an administrator account on your Mac and click OK.
    6. When the GARO Installer for X window appears, click on Continue.
    7. Click Continue.
    8. Click Continue.
    9. Click Agree.
    10. Click Install.
    11. When the installation is complete, click on the Restart button.
    12. When your system has restarted, double-click on the iPF610_710_Driver_OSX_10.5_Ver1.10.hqx file you downloaded.
    13. A folder named iPF610_710_Driver_OSX_10.5_Ver1.10 is created; open it and double-click on "iPF Driver Installer X".
    14. Enter a name and password of an administrator account on your Mac and click OK.
    15. When the iPF Installer X window appears, click on Continue.
    16. Click Agree.
    17. Click Install.
    18. When the installation is complete, click on the Restart button.
    19. When your system has restarted, click on the System Preferences icon on your Dock or select System Preferences from the Apple pull-down menu.
    20. When the System Preferences window appears, click on the Print & Fax icon.
    21. Click on the + Button underneath the Printers column.
    22. Another window will appear; click on the "More Printers" icon.
    23. A drop-down window appears; select Canon IP (GARO) from the pull-down menu if not already selected.
    24. In the "Printer's Address:" field, enter the IP address of your Canon W7250 printer (e.g.
25.In the "Queue Name:" field, enter a name for your printer (e.g. W7250).
    26. Click on Add.
    27. The W7250 is now your default printer. If you want another printer to be the default, change it in the Print & Fax preference pane.

I hope this solves your problem and you found the instructions helful.
