Question about Belkin Wireless Pre-N (F5D8230-4) Router (F5D82304)

Belkin F5D8230-4 Intermittent Signal Problems

My Belkin F5D8230-4 router suffers from Intermittent Signal Problems.

For example, when using VoIP programs like Skype of Gizmo, the connection cuts in and out. This happens to both parties and usually doesn't happen for the first 30 seconds. I have tried using 3 different wifi devices; laptops and smartphones - all suffer from the same issue.

I know it's the wireless router because if I am hard-wired, the issue is not present. I have changed the channels and moved the device away from all other electronics equipment without affect. It does not appear to affect speed significantly, as speed tests are in the range you would expect.

Any suggestions? thanks

Well, it's only noticeable when using voip programs over wireless. When I am streaming radio for example, there is no noticable Intermittent Signal issue, even over wireless. If I plug in the ethernet cable, all signal issues completely disappear.

I am having the same problem you described when using skype -- did you ever find a solution?

  • techpro57 Feb 22, 2009

I have the same problem and the only solution I've seen out on the Internet is to TURN OFF the router's internal firewall, something that I--and many others--refuse to do.

I am going to get a different router or see if I can change my installation so that my Skype computer can be hard-wired to the router (I have a desktop in a far bedroom that I was trying to use with Skype via the router in a different part of the house).

Belkin's website says I have the latest firmware and I have a feeling that these pre-N routers are not going to be updated further, so I'm moving onward. That said, I will NEVER buy another Belkin router.

I am having the exact same problem. The connection resets constantly as i search for it with my laptop. It will connect and a few seconds later the signal disappears. I have been experiencing connectivity problems with my Desktop as well but not as frequently as wireless signals. It's insane!

I have a belkin adsl g router model f5d7633-4 will this support voip and g729 codec

The router can support voip as long as your ISP provider will allow to pass voip traffic. regarding the g729 codec. it will also allow it as long as your pbx server (or software) can support it.

Hi, since your Internet source is the ISP modem, you have to connect the cable from it to the yellow connector of Belkin router, then you can connect the VoIP router and computer to any of the ports (connectors) labeled 1-4 , remember to restart clients (PC & VoIP router) to get the new IP from Belkin router.

Using just the VOIP part of a Belkin all in one router??

You will probably need to set it up differently, I do not know the belking router, but normally the VOIP functions only work on the wan port of these routers so you should make the connections as follows:

INET ---> (wan) DLINK (lan) -----> (wan) BELKIN (voip) --> Phone
|--------> Wired Computers
|--- ) ) ) Wi Fi computers

On the DLINK enable DHCP and set a fixed IP for the Belkin router, either by setting the belkin in an IP outside the DHCP pool or setting it from the DHCP server.

This configuration workd well with a DLINK and a Motorola (vonage) router I have.
