Windows is more up to date than th one tryng to download,I need to cancel this but do not know how to find it

. First of all click the Start button to view the Start Menu. Then choose the Control Panel option.
2. The Control Panel window opens up now.
Click the System and Security link from the Control Panel window.
Important updates provide significant benefits, such as improved security and reliability. Recommended updates can address non-critical problems and help enhance your computing experience. Optional updates are not downloaded or installed automatically.

6. Important Updates can be configured in four ways:

  • Install updates automatically (recommended)
  • Download updates but let me choose whether to install them
  • Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them
  • Never check for updates (not recommended)
If you choose Install updates automatically , there are additional options to schedule the update at a convenient time.

3. The System and Security section of Control Panel opens up. Here you can see the Windows Update link.
As you can see in the above screenshot there is direct links to the important Windows Update option here it self in slightly small fonts, such as Turn automatic updating on or off, Check for updates, View install updates . You may choose the required option directly from here. But we are going ahead to the dedicated Windows Updates section of the Windows 7 control panel by clicking the main Windows update link.

4. So now we are at the Windows Update section of our Window 7 Control panel. You can manually look up for any new updates by clicking the Check for updates button under the heading Check for updates for your computer fromthis window. In order to modify the Windows update option click theChange settings in the left pane.
5. Here you may change the way Windows 7 download and install updates. Configurable option include Important Updates , Recommended updates ,Who can install updates and Featured update notifications .
or if Never check for updates is selected:

I installed windows xp on a Dell XPS 400 and on a Dell Latitude D505, both are genuine copies of Windows Xp pro. I forgot to save the Drivers before installing the XP. So the ethernet ports don't work on...

Probably the previous download files you have downloaded are corrupted, do a check the downloaded files sizes from source & the downloaded to your PC/Notebook are the same sizes.

1. Download link @ Drivers & Downloads for Latitude D505

2. Dowload link @ Product Support for XPS/Inspiron XPS (Key in your "Service Tag" to locate the exact drivers for your model).

Hope it helps.

I have a 400 xps my dvd and cd niether one of them are on my computer anymore

This usually is a problem that happens if the disc burning software drivers become corrupt. Please follow the link below and try that solution first. If it does not work than please write back.

How can i update my dell laptop drivers?

You can go to the Dell Support site @ http://support.dell.com/
but you have to make your selection to update your drivers because there is no automatic updates for drivers at Dell.

or

You can also use the Microsoft Updates, "Custom" selection to update your Dell Laptop drivers.

**note:- If the Laptop is having problems with any device drivers then you update them, if it is running it is not necessary to update your drivers.

Hope it helps.

Automatic updates won't work

First, access the "Windows Update" service and stop it at "Start-Run-type 'services.msc'.. Next, create a new directory "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.old", then move the
contents of "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" into that folder (cut &
paste), and then trying "Windows update" again. Running Windows Update should create new, uncorrupted contents for the directory.

(Sometimes it's easier to rename the "SoftwareDistribution" folder to "SoftwareDistribution.old", then create a new one with the same name in the same C:\Windows location.)

There is a discussion of the problem here (doesn't matter whether computer is Dell or not) with several solutions.

It's apparently been a common problem.

Nvidia driver issue with vista I think

you are right insaying that is video porblem. here is the fix.

This is what appears to happen.during the installation of the most current drivers 100.65 Vista, an OLD file nvlddmkm.sys is copied into windows/system32/drivers and not the current one
in the install. As a result the new drivers are attempting to access a file
dated 11/2006 instead of 2/2007 ver 7.15.11.0065 which is in the newest WHQL
driver ver 100.65 vista 32.

Fix: Go to windows/system32/drivers and rename nvlddmkm.sys to
nvlddmkm.sys.old. Go to the nvidia directory and find the file nvlddmkm.sy_
and copy it to windows/system32. Using the cmd window (DOS box) type
EXPAND.EXE nvlddmkm.sy_ nvlddmkm.sys. When the expansion is complete, copy
the new nvlddmkm.sys to windows/system32/drivers and restart the computer.

Your computer should now work properly.

You will notice that any uninstall and reinstall of nvidia drivers will not
remove the old nvlddmkm.sys file and will not overwrite it with the newer
version. You have to do it manually. I do not know why this happens but who
cares as long it is fixed.

Good luck...
