I had the same problem and I solved it by removing the old battery which would not hold a charge. Simple to try.

found this site after taking my keyboard apart to try and solve it thinking it was dust, now I've broken my 2 key, and five others wont go back on, God I'm beyond pissed off right now. I think it's $80.00 for a new keyboard for the damned thing. I want to find the designer and beat him senseless.

Hey I have an HP zd8000 also and I've experienced everything that you guys mentioned. What's a laptop without a battery if you can't take it anywhere? After two years, I got so frustrated. I researched HP's web site and came across a battery recall. I just got mines in the mail today (Dec. 1, 2008), and my notebook is portable again! :D They will ask for your battery serial number. While typing the serial number be sure not to mix up the letter 'B' with the number '8', or else it will show as invalid serial. This is the link for the HP Battery Replacement Program!

I hope this solves your problem!

I also had this very frustrating problem and found that removing the battery that would no longer hold a charge solved the issue. Go figure. Haven't bought a new battery yet to see what that does and I run my computer on AC power all the time now.

Space key doesn't work well

I would power off the computer and continously hit the space key for a few minutes. It might have a liquid spill such as a soda pop under it and causing it to stick. If that doesn't solve the problem you might need a new keyboard or go inside the laptop and remove the keyboard cable and plug it back in to reseat it. Sometimes that helps. Here's a fail safe alternative. Bring up google's website www.google.com and in the search box type "download.cnet.com" (without the quotes) and click the link to go to their site. When the site comes up look immediately to the left and you will see a gray area that says Find Software. Type in "free virtual keyboard" (without the quotes) and click the mirror to search. It will bring back a page and the Free Virtual Keyboard is listed first. Look to the right of it and click the Download Now button. Download and install it. Once it is install you can look in Start/Programs and right click on it and select Pin to Start Menu then right click again and select Desktop (Create Shortcut). It's a neat keyboard to have just in case your real keyboard goes bonkers. You simply click on the letter with your mouse pointer that you want. It has all the functionality of a physical keyboard. You can open a web page, place your mouse in the address line then bring up the virtual keyboard by clicking on it from your desktop or start menu and it will sit on top of whatever you were trying to do. You can move it to see the typing area as you click on a letter. It works the same way if you opened a word document. In your case anytime you need the space bar, just click on it.

Seems after I have typed for a few minutes, the letters I type are slow to print or are just skipped altogether.

This is one of two fixes, believe me. Turn your laptop over and tighten all available screws. If this does not work you'll need a new keyboard and they are quite affordable and easy to change. Thanks, Dana

Missing letters and spaces

hello,

This happens because the laptop stores extra charge and cause some issues with the keyboard and mouse like skipping letters and erratic mouse pointers.
By removing the battery and the power adapter you actually drained the charge stored completely. It is a routine operation you need to perform on you laptop once a month.

Hope that help !

Cheers !

HP Pavilion zd8000 keyboard skips characters

The most common reason that your cursor skips around is that you are touching the touch pad when typing. Some are more sensitive than others. On my Toshiba I had that problem, but it has a Fn key that allows me to turn off the touchpad. Problem went away when I went to a mouse instead.
Had a client with a Dell with the same problem. I had to actually physically disconnect the touchpad and her problem went away.
Now as for the first problem, (the HP), I'd say you have a stuck key on the keyboard. It would make that noise.

Problem with the laptop keyboard (HP pavilion zd8000)

Firstly give yout keyboard a hoovering gently, then if no change it could be the keyboard driver, this will be either on a recovery disc supplied with the laptop or on a recovery partition on your harddrive. You won't need to do a complete recovery, just a re instalation of the keyboard driver
