To setup your Brother MFC-7840W on a wireless network do the following:

Press Menu.

Scroll down to #5 LAN and hit OK

In the LAN submenu, scroll down to 2. WLAN and hit OK.

In the WLAN submenu select 2. Setup Wizard.
(The printer will search for the SSID of your network. If you are presented with multiple networks, select yours and hit OK.)

Depending whether you have setup a network key on your wireless network, you will have to choose the type of connection. Your options will be Open System, Shared key, and WPA/WPA2-PSK.

If you have a Shared Key or WPA/WPA2-PSK network, then you willhave to enter the key to connect. Open Key does not use a key to connect.

So for instance, if you selected WPA2-PSK you will then be asked to enter your passphrase key to connect to your wireless network.

Hi. I followed all the steps above. The printer recognizes the SSID, which is encrypted with WPA/WPA2-PSK. Then I enter the passphrase, but the printer doen't connect to the WLAN, ending with e "connection problem" message. I'm stuck with this problem. Any sugestion will be very welcome.

    Hello Chiappa,

A couple of things to check out:

    1. Special character - If you want to enter special characters, check out page 150 of the User's Guide which I will repeat below:

you have to press *, #, or 0, then press < or > to move the cursor to the symbol you are looking for. Each symbol *, #, or 0 has their own unique special characters so you may have to search all of them.

    2. Always verify your passphrase for upper and lowercase characters, then be sure to press the letter button the appropriate times for that upper or lowercase letter.

These are the two that I most often see, let me know how this works out for you.

Brother mfc-7840W not picking up wireless IP address

It is common, mainly because the MFC connection is lost to your PC. Are you able to print or scan from another wireless PC that you have? If yes, contact your network admin or router oem. If no, reset network card. Run the Setup Wireless Wizard. Make sure you have router info such as SSID, Network Security Key, Authentication Method (Open, Shared, WPA/WPA2-PSK), Encryption (None, WEP, AES, TKIP). Enter those info, it must be CASE SENSITIVE. Just in case you dont know your router info, contact your router oem.
For Advanced Users.1. Click your Wireless Icon at Task Tray2. Right-Click your Wireless Network Name3. Select Properties4. Go to Wireless Security Settings5. Take note of the settings that you have there and enter it again on your MFC

The printer I use is brother MFC-7840W. It sits next to my computer. I have employees who wirelessly print to the it but in order for it to broadcast wirelessly I have to unplug the network cable from my...

I dont think you have the network set up in the correct way. You should be using a wireless router. If it is a 4 port router, your computer network cable should be in port number 1, the printer can be be wireless or cabled into port 2 of the router. This way you have the internet and can still print wirelessly to the printer and so can anyone else.

Brother MFC-7840W Printerwill only give me Scan To FTP option now

i had the same issue - was previously able to scan to a number of different formats, then switched modems, providers and then only the scan to ftp option came up.
took me about an hour to figure out the solution, but now it works
for windows users: * go to your control panel * go to the scanners & cameras section * your printer/scanner should show up here * right click on it and select 'properties' * select the network settings tab and then -- enter in the correct ip address here OR -- specify your machine by name (enter in name here)
hope this helps!
