In the past it was recommend that the burner be the secondary master. Do to problems like you mentioned. Try making the DVD the slave and the burner the master. Be sure that when you boot up that in the posting that it see the drives right. If the CMOS/ BIOS is set for fast boot you can press the ese or tab to see the post without changing the CMOS/BIOS on most models.

Fix DVD/CD ROM to work Acer M1610, Computer not detecting DVD/CD ROM. No drive is seen how to fix this, what are my options. OS is Vista

Hi rossclark3,

Try to check the jumper settings of your DVD/CD ROM if it is properly assigned as Master or Slave.
Afterwards, also check the cable connecting the DVD/CD ROM to the motherboard.
Finally, restart your PC and check the BIOS Setup if it can already detect your DVD/CD ROM.

Hope this helps you a lot.

Thank you for using FixYa!

Dvd writer doesnot showing in bios

Theres' a couple things you need to double check. If you also have a CD-ROM drive connected to the same data cable as the DVD-ROM writer check the jumper on the back side of both. One should be pinned with a two pin jumper and set as a master and the second should be set as the slave. The back side of each ROM drive is marked M for Master, S for Slave & C for cable select. (Cable Select not suggested).
Double check the data cable. Remove and re-seat at the motherboard and at the ROM drives Parallel ATA data cable. Also check the power cable. Remove and re-seat. If everything is connected and the two pin jumper correctly and snug you should see the DVD listed in the BIOS.
Performed a restart and check your BIOS.

Cheers'
Mike

My new Liteon DVD iHAP122-9 is set as master over an CDRW which is set as slave. My DVD will not format or do anything except play cd and DVD's.

all u need to do is to reaccess the data ribbon........
jus open ur cabinet n have a look at the ribbon........
if its a thick n small ribbon then its a SATA n if its a thin but flat ribbon then its a ID3 ......... in a id3 ..... one end is in the motherboard so the 1 connected to other end is set as master while the one in the centre is the slave........

in SATA for for port no. near the socket in the board....... arrange ur slave in the port of which the no. is more than that of the master....... for eg. if master is in port 3 then slave will be in port 4 or 5

I want to reinstall my window xp operating system i set the dvd rom as the first boot but it says not found

turn off your pc, open it, and check cables and connectors, check the jumper settings on your DVD drive. if you want, you can isolate the problem by simply connecting only the DVD, disconnect the Hard Drive and test.

Can you try installing the new burner as a slave and the zip as the master?

Had a pc once that refused to boot at all with a new DVD burner in it, alongside a DVD-ROM. The burner was replacing a CDRW drive, swapped the drives master and slave settings over and it worked.

Help switching Samsung sn-m242 cd burner from master to slave

If you are to be using two DVD drives and want one as a slave, hook up both together as you would a hard drive with the ribbon cable. Restart the computer in CMOS by hitting F4 (may be different on your system) If you navigate a little with the arrow keys and the enter button, you will see boot options. Often the DVD player is first or second after Floppy and the hard drive last. Now you should see two DVD drives (if thats what you have), just select it to be a slave. This also works if you have only one DVD drive and want it to be a slave. Just select your DVD device to be the second boot option. Windows XP detects hard ware on its own and should not need any firmware unless the burner is made for Windows 95. If this does not answer your question, let me know.

Dvd rom won't work

You forgot to check the jumper settings of the Hard Disk and the DVD Drive found at the back near the IDE and power cables. If you are using one IDE cable, then one jumper should be a Master, that's the Harddisk, and the DVD drive a Slave. If you are using two IDE cable then both must be Master.

You should check also the Harddisk jumper help settings printed on them, some harddisk needs the jumper settings for Slave presence on the same IDE cable.

If it doesn't work then It's either the cable or the DVD drive has a problem.
