How can I backup my digital photographs so that I can keep them for posterity ?

have them printed. nothing digital is longlasting. In the IT industry for data to be considered to be correctly backed up there must be a minimum of 3 backup copies. Bearing in mind that a flash drive or ic is only guaranteed to retain data for a period of 10 years, as is the case with nearly all flash media, flash is not the way to go. I think it may last longer in gallium arsenide chips. DVDS/CDS have a life of about 8 to 10 years before they become unreadable I am told but I have 20 year old cds that still work, however, they do have a limited life. that leaves hdds. Whether they are ssds or mechanical they break eventually. Tape drives can be used but you have to be caredul how you store as any magnetic field can play havoc with them.
Many people are reverting to non digital media for the very reason that all media types, files as data are not very secure.
If you want to save yoyr photos for pesterity have them printed off and make as many back ups as you can.
Technology is moving on so a method of very longlasting digital strage may be developed, but for now this is not the case

Sanyo dp42840 42/46 in color tv have no sound or pic

No picture or sound means the main circuit board has failed, in most cases the boards are not repaired but replaced, this is a very expensive repair and so the option of replacing the TV comes into play, factors that affect the decision to repair or replace are the age of the TV, more than 6 years old replace it, less than 5 repair it. The average life of today's flat panel big screens is at best 8-9 years.

No solution here. If you want a quality Nikon, you need to spend thousands for their professional DSLRs. Take care of your Canon and you should be very happy with it.

    Taking a picture

The CCD image sensor has failed (a common problem on ALL makes and models of older digital cameras).

Your camera is around seven years old now so has far exceeded it's design life. Repairing it is not realistically feasible: it's a professional job and it's going to be difficult now to obtain a functional spare sensor as even the old unused spare ones will now be liable to age-related deterioration. It also means that even with a successful repair, there's no guarantee as to how long it will last.

You may hear about some Sony models which had a massive recall due to premature CCD failure: this was for the 5MP sensor which had a manufacturing defect leading to failure in under five years. Yours is the 3.2MP sensor and has certainly given it's money's worth, so there is no free recall repair option.

Sorry there's no fix for this, but at least you can rest assured that your son hasn't done anything to cause the fault. Your only fix is to recycle the camera and replace it completely.

Manufacturing processes have improved, but the fault remains common. Even expensive Nikon digital SLR's still only have a maximum two year warranty, so always bear that in mind when considering how much to spend on new cameras or on previously owned ones; no current digital model is designed for more than a five year maximum operating life, although plenty do last longer. Digital cameras offer many advantages over film, but a long lifespan is definitely not one of them.

I cannot get the LCD view screen to work ?

There should be a menu button on the camera. if there is, go into the settings and turn the LCD Screen back on. (Actually if you press the menu button on the camera, you should see the menu on the LCD screen.) There is an option to turn off the screen to save battery life.

    Fuji Finepix

Okay well if the images are okay on the PC and don't have any black lines across them it's just the LCD screen. Very expensive to replace and unnecessary if it's still working okay, it's a shame it wasn't still under it's 1 year guarantee; unless you extended it that is.. and you could take it back to the shop for repair or replacement.
