Question about Kenmore 3.2 cu. ft. Plus Top Load Washer

Washer will not spin sometimes

Hi Catriver,
My washing machine runs fine until I get to the spin cycle. It will spin if I take some clothes out (down to 3 or 4 pieces of clothes). I have to run about 4 spins cycles by taking clothes in and out. It will not spin w/ all the clothes in the washer. Do you have any suggestions what could be wrong?
Thanks

Note: not sure what model it is right now. I had to put something in.

Look under for the belt(s). Belts must be clean and dry, and in good shape, no oil or grease on them. If the machine is leaking on the belt, it will slip. Detergent will make the belt slip.

Sounds like it is not rinsing properly.
If you have not already done so, then check the pump filter.
This is located at the bottom front right of basher behind drop down cover.
Unscrew anti-clockwise to remove and clean.

Washer will not spin sometimes/ Safety switch broken and I need to lift the lid to install new switch. Any suggestions?

If you are talking about replacing the lid switch, the following link explains how to remove the washer case to access:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

The intermittent spin cycle problem is generally a clue that the lid switch may be malfunctioning in some way. If you've already diagnosed this to be your problem, then the link I provided will give you the necessary guidance to complete this repair. If you have any questions along the way, please let me know. I hope this is helpful to you.

Sounds like the timer has failed. It's a common problem.

Rattling noise during spin cycle

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

Machine not spinning due to uneven load balance although clothes are loaded evenly initially

I suggest you stick to the maximum load capacity (or less) of the machine; and not over-load the machine with clothes.

Lori, first check the lid switch, if it's broken, it won't spin or drain. Put it into spin and hold the switch down, see if it drains. Check that first...Catriver..post back.

Rinse cycle spinning... clothes still soaked

It sounds like your washer is not going through it's neutral drain. After agitation, your washer should pause and drain for around 90 seconds to pump out the water before spin. Check this out by starting a wash with a small screw driver holding the lid switch down. This will allow you to observe whether or not it's going through it's neutral drain. If not, it's a transmission problem. The trans is covered under warranty for 5 years. You may also want to check the pump to see if it's gunked up. Catriver..post back.

Washer will not pass wash cycle...Will not Drain

Nightshade, in most cases, no spin, no drain is a lid switch problem. If you advance the timer to the spin position does it spin? If the machine is agitating you can rule out the coupler. If you are sure that it is not a lid switch problem, then you are probably looking at a bad timer....Catriver..post back.
