UMD Games Will Not Load

Hi, 2 of my sons both have PSP's. One of the PSP's has suddenly stopped recognising the UMD Games. I have checked in system settings and the PSP is set to auto-start UMD's.

I can hear the drive moving but nothing is happening!

I've also upgraded the software to 3.93 but still no difference.

Any advise would be appreciated. The console is about 13 months old. Thanks.

    i had the same problem at around 12 months old.

    If you have dirt/dust on the lense buy a lense puffer from a camera shop and blow the dust away, these are cheap.

    do not touch the lense at all with anything!.

    If you have no joy I believe the only way to cure this is to replace the laser head which is a difficult/time consuming and skilled job.

    Sony has a reliability issue with these as you are not the first i have heard of.

Hi. Since you're in UMD Autoload mode, you need to configure that in the PSP Settings. To do this, turn off your PSP and remove your UMD. Now, turn it back on and it won't autoload your UMD since it wasn't there anymore.
Now, go to "Settings" and scroll down to "System Settings" and press X. Scroll down again the selection until you see "UMD Auto-Start" and press X. At the right side will appear the options "ON" and "OFF". Select "OFF" and press O button several times to go back to main screen.
Insert your UMD. Now, try playing games from Memory Stick. You may have to turn off your PSP and turn it on again to finally play homebrew...
I hope this helps...

Updated to 5.51 and all games are not available

Nothing could happen now because once you've update your psp with v5.51 it will not downgrade and you can only play UMD games or demo.

Psp always read from umd,making it hang

Hi! I incounter this problem as well even without UMD its still loading and even I disable auto-start UMD still same so I tried reflashing the software but still same problem so I discover the solution before you turn-on your PSP try to open your UMD cover you'll see it will load faster then close again the cover once you see the battery and clock icon... The problem that causing this is the switch inside the UMD possible its stock-up or spoiled already!

Psp(1001)won't read umd games or movies

If your PSP isn't reading games and/or movies and the problem isn't that your trying to play dirty, bent, or damaged UMD discs there are a number of other reasons your PSP is not reading disks correctly =

- Your UMD motor may be malfunctioning.
- Your laser may have worn down from use over time.
- Your UMD drive tray may be bent.
- There may be a foreign object in your UMD drive

Common symptoms

* disks fail to load
* extremely slow loading
* strange whirring noise when trying to read disks

I want to load a game to my new PSP with 1gb memory stick

  1. Slide the open latch on the top of the PSP? system. The disc cover opens.
  2. Insert the UMD? with the disc label facing the system rear. Slide the UMD? down the metal guides and press down until fully inserted. You should hear a slight click, indicating that the UMD? is held in place.
  3. Close the disc cover.

    the Latch your looking for looks like this

Psp-lazer ain't reading the games

This link should help.

  • Make sure the UMD is properly inserted with the label facing the back of the PSP system. Try removing the UMD and reinserting it.
  • Try playing the UMD on a different PSP system. If the UMD plays, the original PSP system may be the problem. If the UMD does not play, the problem may be isolated to the UMD itself.
  • Try playing a different UMD on the PSP system. If another UMD plays, the original UMD may be the problem. If none of the UMD's play, the problem may be isolated to the PSP system.
  • Make sure the exposed UMD surface and plastic casing is not damaged[2]. Do not use if plastic casing is cracked, collapsed, or if foreign materials have entered inside the UMD enclosure.
