When the tv is it totally black and white and the tv picture are good and clear wright?when the tv colors are fade in and out are clear up and when the tv picture it is in colors it is look good normal picture wright?Tv have no shadows of any kinds of colors when picture are good in colors wright?Yes,take ur hand make fist or take a wooden hamer bangs all around the tv bazel frame if the tv colors come back or tv stay in colors it is have good picture in colors.Tv it is still good just have components parts are cold soldering or CRT colors guns R,G,B just require resoldering works only.

Your tv is start to spoiled. But it is quite normal if your tv is back to normal after about 5 minutes. If after 5 minutes the screen stranger background still persist, unplug your power chord. This will totally cut the power supply for your tv.
the problem with ur is the convergence ic , now this problem is very dificult to do , when ur take the back cover off look for 2 big black peaces the part # start with stk392 - xxxx or stk040-xxxx , also u need a solder station , , but if u dont want to do this u may want to hire a tv tech normal repair is about $200-250
I have owned this model for 4 years now. 2 years ago this same thing happened to me. I think the repair man said the transformer went out and he replaced that. It has happened to me again so I will try and do this myself, and let you know if I succeed. This TV has been terrible, I will never buy hitachi again. If you ever use an hdmi cable the tv does very weird things like changes color or distorts for about 30 secs then goes back to normal. P.O.S.
use the advanced options page and reset the factor blue and red convergence defaults then do re apply the auto color defaults color at first it seemed very red (which is good because red was the missing factor in the green picture) but after reseting all the color and tints to the normal ranges I then reset the color auto correct again and all seems fine.
