Question about Dell Axim X5 Pocket PC
Should the activity light on the cf card be green or amber? I've never seen mine go green and I cannot connect to my own wireless network... I've tried everything I can think of...

You do not need the card slot for internet, you can put a memory card in there to store your data.
The PDA supports Wifi, so it is able to connect to a wireless network, as long as it is in range and it is allowed to access the network.
I don't know if you've got the manual. Anyway, you can find it here.
How to make a connection is explained in section 10, under 'Creating an ethernet connection'. I think a network card is already installed in your PDA.
You can manage email by using the pre-installed Microsoft Outlook. How to use this is also explained in the manual, in section 6.
If you need any further help, just post your question.
