Question about GE MiniCam Pro HO98756 Webcam

1 Answer

Won't take snapshots, constant beeping sound over the audio, and the voice and video are off.

My husband bought the same cam and has none of these problems. My compy is a bit older than his, but it meets or exceeds all of the system requirements. Is the camera broke or what? Should I try to return it?

Normal 0 Disconnect the Camera from the USB port and reinstall the CD or Downloaded software program. When the program asks you to connect the camera to the USB port, do so and it should work. Then to use it on the Web, do this.
Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.
Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.
A. Skype Setup:
After downloading and installing Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/download/skype/windows/beta/downloading/ ) set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if Installed Properly will come up and show a video picture.
  4. Then, on the bottom of the page click on Save.
The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and her to you.
B. Yahoo Setup:
After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger (http://www.soft32.com/download_30.html ) set it up as follows:
  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.
C. Windows Live Messenger:
  1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
  2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
  3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
  4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.
NOTE: Your audio and video should work. Enjoy.
When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope this helps. Bud

Nuvi 2555mt lost voice

First, do you hear beeps when you press a selection on the screen? If yes, then your speaker is OK and the audio circuits are OK in the unit. Make sure that you have a voice selected in the voice menu. Some units have an audio mixer screen and provide different volume settings for navigation (voice) and system (beeps). maybe the volume for the voice (navigation) is set to off. If you don't hear any beeps when you touch the screen AND you don't hear a voice, make sure that the sound isn't set to be muted. If the sound isn't muted, you may have a defective speaker. How do I turn on either the web cam in my PC lap top or an attached web cam and use it to snap a photo?

With everyone using social networking websites like Facebook and Myspace, being able to produce a decent profile picture is becoming more of a standard expectation for computer users.

You don\'t need expensive digital cameras to take a picture of yourself with your computer.

You can take a snapshot of yourself for free if you have Internet access and a web cam.

Skype

Skype is a free software program that allows you to make phone calls through the computer. It also lets you text chat and place video calls.

Since Skype is designed for use with web cams, it has the capacity to take snapshots both of you and of the person to whom you are talking in a video call.

Plug your web cam into your computer and make sure it is on, open Skype, click on the "Skype" menu, select "Change your picture," and then click "Take Video Snapshot."

After that, you can decide whether you want to keep the picture or trash it.

Use this option if you want a picture that people can see in Skype almost immediately and don\'t want to bother with downloading or uploading anything.

Cameroid

Cameroid is a free picture utility available from cameroid.com.

Unlike Skype, you don\'t have to have any software installed on your computer aside from your Internet browser.

This is a good option if you would like to snap a picture at your work desk, since many corporations have restrictions on what programs you can download and install on company computers.

Just make sure your web cam is connected and on, and if prompted, click on "Allow" to grant the website permission to access your camera.

Then just click on one of the two camera icons in the toolbar on the right hand side.

General Tips

Lighting and angle are probably the two biggest factors in taking a good picture with your computer and a web cam.

Try to make sure that you have a source of light that is indirect (i.e., diffused)--you can use a lampshade to diffuse the light, or you can pull an old photographer\'s trick and drape a sheet in front of the lamp.

Shooting up toward the face instead of straight on can help hide a little extra weight in your chin.

Rather than trying to hide curves completely, turn to accentuate other areas for example, if you don\'t want to show your stomach, turn slightly to the side with your hip forward.

No matter what angle you have, make sure the clothing you choose is appropriate.

You can wear something a little sexy if you want to do so, but avoid anything extremely low cut or short shorts and skirts.

Remember you\'re selling a taste of yourself, not the entire bakery.

Some webcams and programs require additional software, although that should be installed with the webcam if things are right.

But is does not harm to check if your Java, Flash and Quicktime software are installed and up to date.

But certainly check your DirectX software, since all video applications, including webcams, use DirectX for video processing.

Try downloading the latest DirectX version and install it (Windows XP: DirectX 9.0c - Windows Vista: DirectX 10).

It does sound like the motherboard failing as you have tried everything possible. Could be the bios chip corrupted.
As to a replacement, Ebay is your best bet, as there do not be any suppliers offering this older board now

Audio on Dell Webcam Central And voice record isn't working

I have a Dell 1545 with Dell web cam central & I've had this issue. The problem is that Dell web cam central installs it's own microphone settings onto your laptop called something like Dell web cam Live!. This isn't the built in microphone in my laptop & maybe not yours either. You have to change the settings for your computer system & Dell web cam central. Go to start> control panel> sound> recording .. on mine there is an option for Microphone "High Definition Audio Device" ... that is the built in mic. You want that for your default & apply it. Also .. as a side note .. I disabled the web cam central Live! microphone completely from this window. Then open Dell web cam central & go to the "Record Video's" option. In the middle of this is an orange button with a video camera icon. Next to this on the same button is a little arrow pointing down .. click that. Under microphone .. choose Microphone "High Definition Audio Device" just like the sound option in control panel. I've done this & it's completely fixed. I can record videos with sound & use my built in mic in voice/video chat.
