I too have the Gateway Model MX6920. It said I had a corrupt file and then it ran a scan all by itself and said I needed to defrag the system. I told it to go ahead and defrag and it replied with an error message stating that chkdsk was scheduled to run on the drive and I needed to run chkdsk. So, I did that. It said system is NTFS and cannot run chkdsk but would run in read only mode. It ran and deleted all kinds of corrupt files (which shouldn't be there as I don't do anything to corrupt the files and haven't changed anything I've done since I purchased the computer). It said it was scheduling chkdsk to run on startup. Well I rebooted the computer and it didn't run anything. So I shut it down, waited a few minutes, then restarted it again, still, nothing. I tried defrag again. Same message. Then I researched the command lines to see if I could cancel the scheduled chkdsk. I did what it said to no avail. It still didn't fix anything, still refuses to defrag, won't run chkdsk, scan disk, or anything even remotely close to it. Anti-virus comes up clean other than saying I need to defrag the drive. Spyware is clean. Everything else checks out fine. Now I've started getting new corrupt file error notifications warning me to run chkdsk. It's not doing any good as it doesn't do anything but delete a bunch of stuff and cause programs not to work right anymore. I tried reinstalling some of them and the problem is not fixed. I read somewhere that this is a known problem with the gateway MX6920 but I can't find it now and it's driving me insane! I have to work from this computer and now my work program is corrupt and cannot be fixed. We've attempted everything and still no luck.

Disk fragment

You need to run chkdsk...

How to run Chkdsk

Notes

Chkdsk requires exclusive access to a volume when it runs. Therefore, if one or more of the files are open on the disk that you want to check, Chkdsk displays a prompt asking if you want schedule the disk check for the next time that you restart your computer.
Chkdsk might take a long time to run, depending on the number of files and folders, the size of the volume, disk performance, and available system resources, such as processor and memory.
Chkdsk might not accurately report information in read-only mode.

How to run Chkdsk at the command prompt

Click Start, and then click Run.
In Open, type cmd, and then press ENTER.
Use one of the following procedures:
To run Chkdsk in read-only mode, at the command prompt, type chkdsk, and then press ENTER.
To repair errors without scanning the volume for bad sectors, at the command prompt, type chkdsk volume:/f, and then press ENTER.

Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message:
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)
Type Y, and then press ENTER to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.
To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information, at the command prompt, type chkdsk volume:/r, and then press ENTER.

How to run Chkdsk from My Computer or from Windows Explorer

Double-click My Computer, and then right-click the hard disk that you want to check.
Click Properties, and then click Tools.
Under Error-checking, click Check Now. A dialog box that shows the Check disk options is displayed,
Use one of the following procedures:
To run Chkdsk in read-only mode, click Start.
To repair errors without scanning the volume for bad sectors, select the Automatically fix file system errors check box, and then click Start.
To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start.
Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message:
The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?
Click Yes to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.

The following table lists the exit codes that Chkdsk reports after it has finished:
Exit code Description
0 No errors were found.
1 Errors were found and fixed.
2 Disk cleanup, such as garbage collection, was performed, or cleanup was not performed because /f was not specified.
3 Could not check the disk, errors could not be fixed, or errors were not fixed because /f was not specified.

What is the solution to "Exception EOleSysError module at 00058E75."

Try this:

Run a CheckDisk:
How to run Chkdsk at the command prompt

(Windows XP)
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In Open, type cmd, and then press ENTER.
  3. Use one of the following procedures:
    • To run Chkdsk in read-only mode, at the command prompt, type chkdsk, and then press ENTER.
    • To repair errors without scanning the volume for bad sectors, at the command prompt, type chkdsk volume:/f, and then press ENTER.

Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message: Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)Type Y, and then press ENTER to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.
    • To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information, at the command prompt, type chkdsk volume:/r, and then press ENTER.

      Windows Vista & Windows 7
You can launch CHKDSK using two methods (the former being the easiest):

      Graphical Interface:

Open the Computer option from the start menu, which will display all of the drives available to scan on your PC:

      108d1237820652-use-chkdsk-check-disk-chkdsk.png
Then, right click on the drive you wish to scan for errors and select Properties:

      107d1237820652-use-chkdsk-check-disk-chkdsk2.png
Now click the Tools menu, then Check Now under the error-checking section:

      106d1237820652-use-chkdsk-check-disk-chkdsk3.png
You have several options within the check disk tool. It is always recommended you leave the "automatically fix file system errors" box checked, as this repairs and problems found. If you want to perform a deeper scan, tick "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors". This second option takes longer, but is worth doing if you suspect a drive problem. Once you are configured, click Start:

      105d1237820652-use-chkdsk-check-disk-chkdsk4.png
If you try to check a disk that is currently in use, you will receive a message asking if you wish to schedule a scan. Accepting this will perform the scan next time you restart your PC:

      104d1237820652-use-chkdsk-check-disk-chkdsk5.png
      Good Luck!

    • To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information, at the command prompt, type chkdsk volume:/r, and then press ENTER.

If possible, I'd run this program (http://www.hdsentinel.com/) to check for disk errors as well/

I can't install Windows Xp Sp2 For Compaq Presario Cq60 Model. a blue screen error occured after completing the files from cd to ram before entering lience agreement

You need to check your system ram or memory. If you have 2 system ram or memory unplug the other memory and install the windows xp sp2 again. If still having a blue screen try the other memory then run the setup again. Also if you have an extra hard disk drive you can test it that or plug your hard disk drive to the other laptop and run the windows xp sp2 using your hard drive. If you can install the windows xp sp2 on the other laptop that means your hard disk drive are good. If your memory and to the other laptop are compatible plug it and run the windows xp sp2 installer to see and to diagnose what are really causing problem. Have a nice day.
