Split A/C-Cold:

You need four wires(two #10 and two #12) to the outdoor unit, leaving you house, and three wires(#10) coming from the breaker to tye indoor unit inside your house.

Split A/C-Cold and Hot:

You need five wires(two #10 and three #12) to the outdoor unit, leaving your house, and thee wires(#10) coming from the breaker to your indoor unit inside your house.

This ypical arrangment(all of them use three wires fro the breaker), yet there are other units which may require 6-7 wires connected to the the outdoor unit depends on the added features to the unit.

SOURCE: Airforce 12000BTU Air Conditioner wiring problem

The outdoor unit should have 2 small wires connected to the contactor coil. This delivers the 24v "Signal" to energize the coil. The wire from the t'stat for cooling are usually yellow, in almost every case. When you put the t'stat in the cooling mode and set the temp lower than the room temp, the indoor and outdoor unit should come on. Check for voltage on the terminal block for 24 volts accross the yellow and common wire. Common could be ground on some handlers. If you have the 24 volts, then check for 24v on the 2 small wires (usually 18 to 22 gage wire) on the contactor coil. If no voltage, trace the 2 wires back to the indoor unit and see where they go. If they are the ones that are not attached, put one on the yellow wire terminal and the other on the common terminal. This will send power to the indoor unit and then piggyback to the outdoor unit. Do not remove the yellow and common from the terminal block. Don't be too concerned about the colors from the outdoor coil wires. Just make sure they are hooked up right. Good Luck and hope this gets it going.

I need the wiring diagram to wire a thermostat to the outside unit. Which wire goes where ? My Thermostat has four wires, green, red, white, and yellow. My Outside unit has three wires that are not...

The thermostat wires are this, Red is 24 volts hot, Yellow is cooling, Green is fan, indoor, and white is heat. The outdoor unit wires up to the indoor units terminal board, not the thermostat. The red will go to the R or red 24 volt wire at the furnace. The yellow goes to the yellow terminal at the furnace. You should only have 2 wires to connect at the outdoor unit. Try capping the blue off.It may not be used unless this is a dual transformer unit which you will need a tech to come out and rewire the furnace to make the outdoor unit a 2 wire set-up. This can be very complicated if this is the case. Connect these wires like I have said to the indoor unit, and it should work fine. Please keep me posted. This is only low voltage, so don't let it scare you. If nothing works, I would say that the blue wire outdoors is the 3rd wire for a 2 transformer unit, and will need to be rewired at the indoor unit for it to work, this I would have to be there to do.

I have had this problem with a Fujitsu unit before. If the power is supplied to the outdoor unit first but unit is meant to have power supplied to indoor unit first, outdoor will only stop when power is cut off! In that case, you will have to run the power cable to the indoor unit first and then connect from appropriate terminal back to outdoor unit. (Often the indoor will stop outdoor unit by just cutting the power to it via use of a relay on the pcb.)
