A slow laptop

Many things can slow a laptop down. First, how old is this machine? Older machines must work harder to run today's websites and applications. If the machine is not that old, check to see how much RAM the machine has. Many laptops only have 2GB or less. This makes them run slower with the newer software and websites. Consider upgrading to at least 4GB if the machine is capable. Next, look at the hard drive. How much free space does it have? If there is less than 10GB free, you could be having space issues causing slowdowns. The OS and applications use free hard drive space during operation, but if the space is not available, this can slow down or freeze applications. Next, check the Recycle Bin. If there are a lot of files in it, it takes up space that can be used for the OS and programs. Clear it out, or better yet, empty it. Next, check the ventilation holes and fan assemblies for the unit. if the vents are clogged and/or the fan is not working, this will cause the CPU to run hot. This will slow down processing and possibly cause freezing and eventually, failure. Next, look at your browser. How many add-on toolbars does it have? Many programs add stuff to the browser without your even being aware. Each of these takes a little speed of the browser at work. Consider removing any toolbars that you aren't using or don't want. You can go to Remove Programs under Control Panel and see these there for removal. Last possibility is Virus or Malware. Even the best antivirus software won't find everything. You can download a free version of Malwarebytes at This will find almost anything that is not desired. Any one of theses issue, and often, a combinations of them, work to slow down laptops to a crawl.

This laptop is very slow

Slowness in the laptop can be due to many reasons. You may upgrade your processor( to i5 or i7), but that will be too costly. Try increasing the RAM of your laptop. Also don't overflow your hard drive. Decrease in free space on your hard drive will ultimately slow down your laptop.

Hp dv 2000 it seems like go slow

Try two Freeware programs , 1, CCLEANER: This freeware program has many useful tools. The cleaner and Registry cleaner will remove the junk that accumulates in the computer over time and frees up disk space. In the TOOLS section, STARTUP section, disable ALL unnecessary startup programs. 2, MALWAREBYTES: In the install UNCHECK the TRIAL PRO version, you want the freeware version. Run a FULL scan, delete ALL results, reboot. Disable ALL toolbars from your web browsers, they are killers on browser speed. Here are some tips to increase speed:

Download, free program, with update, for slow, sony vaio pcg-r505gl xp pro

Generally there are many reasons causing your Sony Vaio laptop or desktop PC running slow or freezing. For example, lack of free disk space, registry corruption or redundancy, overload startup programs, virus attack, fragmented hard drive etc. There are manual ways to get all those issues fixed but it costs time and energy, and most importantly it needs technical skills. So I'll recommend a quick yet easy fix solution, as you can see here:

My Acer computer is 18 months old and now its saying I need a disc to use it as the settings need updating

Hi lexie, if your PC has a license operating system and at the control panel the automatic update is enabled, every time you access the net it will download updates in your PC and automatically install it discreetly, you may find your PC slowing down because of the updates incurred worst it will eat up your hard drive space and it will become near full. I suggest that to free some disk space there is an option in you control panel add/remove programs to uninstall updates, the other is perform disk clean up to remove unnecessary old files from your hard drive. Cheers!

My laptop is sort of running slower and I wondered if it was because my space is almost full on my laptop? And I also wanted to know if I can do anything to make it go back to normal. One other thing is...

First of all, simply delete your browsing history and cookies. Websites will sometimes download cookies or copies of their pages to your hard drive for faster loading later. The unfortunate thing is that this can slow down your pc. Using your browser, delete your browsing history, cookies, and all offline content.

If your computer takes a long time to boot up, take note of how many programs you have loading on start up. Pay attention to the bottom right of your screen and watch the icons. Having a large amount of programs loading on start up will make your boot times considerably slower. Open these programs and tell them not to start on start-up, or simply delete them if you don't use them.

Sometimes spyware or other malware will be downloaded to your computer and can adversly affect performance. I suggest downloading a spyware deleting program like Lavasoft's AdAware. It is free and reliable. When you use it, make sure that you update the definitions each time to make sure you search for the newest spyware. Try running the tests at least once a week.

My aspire 3680-2633 is running super slow! How can I get it some speed

There are two possible reasons for computer running slow:
1. A lot of applications are installed and the Windows is trying to load all during the startup process
2. The computer is infected with virus

Try uninstalling some softwares and also scan your computer for virus

If the issue still persists, the I would suggest a full system recovery, you can restore the computer back to factory default,to do so, follow the below steps:
Turn OFF the computer, now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding "Alt" key & keep on tapping "F10" key, i.e Alt+f10, it will open the recovery console, select full factory restore and follow onscreen instruction.

NOTE: This will erase all the datas on the computer.

Thanks and regards,

Why is my laptop so hot and running all the time? it's only 1.5 years old?? programs are slower too.....

It is normal for hp laptop to get hot when it is running. my own hp laptop will burn my lap if i put it on my lap while running.

If your laptop is slow, free up space in the hard disk because if the hard is fill up, it can make the laptop to be slow.

If it is still slow, then the laptop is contacted with a virus. scan the system with updated anti virus and delete the virus on your laptop or you format the laptop and re run windows.

Thanks for contacting Fixya.

Sony Vaio VGN-FS980 is slow

Aside from hardware many things can slow up your PC:
  • If the C: drive is too full Windows is unable to allocate a proper virtual memory cache on the drive.
  • Your chosen anti-virus solution can even slow certain machines down (post what your running)
  • A high % of the time it is spyware/malware related
Just to make sure the machine is completely malware free you should download and run this program.
