You need to unhook all of the speaker wires from the back. they are crossed. i had the same problem with mine. unhook all the wires and turn the unit on. turn the volume all the way down. Make sure your wires arent crossed next time you can damage your reciver.

Hi changeman5 Have you tried to do a full reset on the unit. Disconnect from the wall for 24 hrs. Then try again. If the problem persists, it may have power supply issues, or a DC offset problem shutting it down. If you are game, I could talk you through some more diagnostics...

regards
Graeme

I have a Kenwood vr-405 and for the most part it works. I have been noticing that one front speaker is quite a bit louder than any other speaker. I have tried to adjust it many times and it seems like...

Maybe you should first isolate the problem to the receiver or the speaker by swapping the front speakers with each other to see if the loudness stays with the channel of the speaker.

Or, the acoustics of the room just make that speaker seem louder at the listening position. Try taming it with the adjustments provided in the receiver.

Does kenwood VR-405 play DTS-HD Master

I have the 405 and a Samsung 3600 which has onboard DTS Master/ Dolby True HD. Out of the 6 movies I 've watched, only 2 have given me Dolby Digital. Bottom line: If the movie doesn't have DD, you cant get DD on the 405. I thought just about all blu rays had DD but its not so. Its time for us to upgrade!

more info would be nice. If you're using optical, make sure its securely in both the tv and your vr-405 receiver. I have owned the vr-405 since 2000 and i just purchased a sony 32xbr6. HDMI into the TV, optical out to the receiver, it sounds amazing!

Shuts off

The unit is protecting itself from a high current situation on the output amps. Either you have a bad speaker or an Amp that is getting ready to give up the ghost. Check your speakers with an Ohm-meter for proper readings (ie 4Ohm speaker should read 4 ohms)
