I have the same problem but it's with the green crt. The screen will turn bright green then the TV will go into safe mode and the power light will start flashing. Sometimes I can unplug the TV, plug it back in and turn it on and it will work for a while. I bought a remote control electrical plug from Radio Shack for about $25 and plugged the TV into it so I won't have to crawl around on the floor to remove power from the TV. Sometimes it gets so bad that the TV won't come back on. When that happens, I remove the speaker panel so I can access the color adjustments. There are 2 (side by side) for each crt. They are Red, Green, and Blue from top to bottom. The adjustments on the left are for focus, the one's on the right are for intensity. If I unplug the TV and turn my intensity all the way up on the green crt, plug TV in and turn in on, my TV will remain on. I adjust the green intensity back to where it looks good and every thing OK for a while. I have been doing this for about a month and things don't seem to be getting worse, although I do have a spot in the middle of the screen that seems to be growing, so the green crt does need to be replaced. The crt's are so expensive I don't know if it's worth repairing, even if I do it myself. This seems to be a common problem. I would hate to have all 3 go out in the near future and have to spend as much on repairs as it cost to buy a new TV. I hope this helps someone. I don't have a technical reason for this working nor do I know if it won't eventually do more harm than good. For me, it's a nothing from nothing situation!

When screen turns bright blre. Do you also see brighter thin lines that are curved approx. 6 inches apart. And is the picture so blue you can no longer see the video through the color?

Its very possible that the blue CRT is horting the set out. Heres how you can test it. Remove the speaker grille and access panel behind the grille and you will see the crts. remove the blue crt circuit board from the end of the blue crt and make sure it isnt touching anything then try powering up the set if it doesnt shut down then you have found the problem and you will need a new crt. or you can switch the blue circuit with the green and try it iwth the blue on green and the green on the blue then if the screen turns green before shutting down you will know that its a problem in the blue drive circuit and not the crt. lety me know if you need further assistance.

If you switched the crt circuit boards like i suggested and the screen still turned blue its definitely your blue CRT that needs to be replaced.

Projection TV sets have three tubes - red - blue - green and they don't fail often...they are located inside the tv DLP TV sets use a single bulb and a clot wheel to make the three colors display...DLP bulbs do fail about every two years and will need o be replaced. Replacements can be found at www.TvRepairKits.com and its located behind a small door on the rear of the tv.

Toshiba 46h84 rear projection shutting down

I have a Toshiba 46h84 with similar problem that needs a new green crt. Mine does not have a cooling fan. I don't know if having a cooling fan would help the problem, but mine didn't come with one. There are rear projection TV's that have bulbs in them that require a fan. This particular model uses a red, a green, and a blue crt to generate the picture and probably doesn't need one.

SCreen turns red then shuts off

The 46H84 has 3 CRTs instead of a lamp. Red, Green and Blue. Your red CRT is shorting out shutting down the set. Here is how you test that theory. Remove the speaker grille, there will be an access panel behind the grille remove that and you will see the CRTs red is usually on the left. hit the power momentarally to locate which tube is red. then power down and unplug the power cord. Carefully remove the tubes Circuit board. ( you may have to carefully slice the glob of silicone applied at the factory to get the circuit board off) Once you have the circuit board off the Red CRT make sure it isnt touching anything and try powering up the set. If the set stays on and the other 2 CRTs light up. That tells you the RED crt is shorted and thats whats shutting your set down. Let me know if I can assist you further.
