I have a cobra xrs 9370 and when I turn it on all is get is the number 8 symbol on the right. Does anyone know what that means?

This is a Citizens Band (CB) channel and the indicator is informing you on what channel your radio is set to. Most often used when traveling in pair/group to make sure all can listen/chime in for directions, law enforcement/accident up ahead.

I just need to know the meaning of each symbol for my cobra xrs 9685

X band is usually some electrical signal not to worry.
K band is usually a radar sign or machine that tells you your speed. (Small town Sheriffs use this band also because they cant afford newer technology)

I wanted to know what the symbols meant when they go off.

Ok X, K, and Ka are the type of radar bands the officers radar gun admits. The V is shown when an officer's gun can detect certain radar detectors. The S is a safety alert when emergency vehicles are near. BTW here is a link to a PDF manual that should be similar to your model.

What do the the symbols Ka, K, X, L, and SWS mean on a radar detector

These symbols refer to the frequency of the radar gun's signals that are used to detect your speed. L is for laser, x, k and Ka band have designated frequencies that they use for radar traffic control. They range from around 10GHz. to 30 GHz. if my memory serves me.

When "X" lights up, this means that your RD is either detecting X band police radar or that it is detecting an X band microwave automatic door opener.

When "K" lights up, this means the same as above except that the radar signal is a K band radar signal.

When "Ka" lights up, then this means that your RD is detecting police Ka band radar since no automatic door openers operate on Ka band.

When "VG-2" lights up, this is supposed to mean that your RD is detecting a VG-2 radar detector detector (RDD). Police use RDDs such as the VG2 and the Spectre to indicate that a motorist is using a radar detector.
