Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console
If you have tried a CD cleaner disk with no results, then this is a problem with the laser that reads the disks. These lasers have two adjustments on the bottom of them, one for CDs (PS1 games) and one for DVD (PS2 games). It is sometimes possible to adjust the DVD side and get it to work (there are many tutorials on the web on how to do this), but unfortunatly this is a temporary fix. The only real fix is to buy another laser. They are very abundant on the web (ebay is a great source for them too!). They are very reasonably priced now. Either way the unit will have to be disassembled. Hope this helps you out...

First of all the new laser lens will not allow your Slim to read NTSC UC games if you have a PAL european Console.
There is no reason the New laser should have not read the disc unless it Came to you damaged. It sounds like you know how to replace a laser.
