Make sure your camera driver is up to date from ACER

Link to downloads for the Acer 5100 laptop

The only connectors on your camcorder are as follows:

1 x microphone
1 x headphones
1 x IEEE 1394 (FireWire/i.LINK)
1 x S-Video output
1 x composite video/audio output
1 x Control-L (LANC)
1 x DC power input

If you have an s-video on your laptop you can connect it with an s-video cable and audio cable (red and white one end, black the other end

I am looking at the computer on line and on the Left View, I see a 4 pin iDDD1394 port. You can use this to connect your camera,

Also, on the rear view you do have a s-video port.

You should have no problem connecting the computer and camcorder.

Firewire 800

I don't know, but regardless, if you have a firewire connector on your laptop, it will work. If old like mine, even if the camcorder is firewire 800 ready, made for 800, it will run at 400 (just like my laptop can do USB 2 but cannot do usb 3... so it sends at USB 2 speeds.) The firewire connectors look the same for both 400 and 800 btw. <:0} So it doesn't really matter.

How to install firewire to my r510 laptop

Fire wire is the plug in that says 1394 on the laptop. You will need a proprieary firewire cord to plug this in. If your laptop does not have a port stating 1394 then get an adapter as such

My driver has been gone, I can't capture from my cam corder

Do you mean you have lost driver for a camcorder that you connect to your laptop
via usb

or do you mean the driver for an internal webcam

if it is a camcorder then you should be able to go to the website of the name of the camcorder
and download the driver and software from there

so if it is a cannon camcorder go to

and look for downloads for camcorders then find your model
please make sure you find the correct drivers for the operating system that you are using
so if you are using xp please look for the driver for xp
if you are using vista please look for the driver for vista

hope this has helped you
many thanks

Is there a cable available for the connection from my pc: Acer Aspire 5735Z, using one of the 3 USB-ports to the DV-port (with an firewire 4 points entrance) of my digital camcorder JVC GR-D740-E...?

yes look at any usb connected printers external hard drives or cd/dvd/blueray drives the usb cable connected to this device should fit your camcorder as well.

I am searching for the right cable-connection from my Mini DV digital camcorder JVC GR- D740-E to my pc (laptop) Acer Aspire 5735 Z. One end of the cable must be a firewire 4 points ?? for my camcorder...

More than likely a Mini USB to USB cable, like most mobile phones use. Take your camcorder in to the electronics shop and they will find you a cable or look it up in your user manual. It will be down as an accessory.
Hope that helps.

Firewire on Inspiron - Connecting Canon MD 120 camcorder

Browsing over the md120 specs, included should be a software disc for the usb connector, so it shouldn't matter whether you use an adapter or the 4 to 4 cable. This disc will have the drivers and software for using the camera in conjunction with your laptop. Have you tried this download for the camera.

Also check out this link. Towards the bottom under additional features it lists software, drivers and utilities, and at the bottom under supplied accessories it lists application software/usb driver. Go to the store you purchased this at or contact Cannon support and get the disc that was supposed to be included.

My Compaq Presario X1000 doesn't recongize my camcorder via firewire port.

It may be the problem with driver. Your OS may not contain the proper driver.Like in windows service pack 1 do not recognise some camcorders. either upgarde to service pack 2 or download proper driver from manufacturers site

Importing video from dv camcorder

If your camcorder is using miniDV format(cassette) the best way is to connect it through the firewire IEEE 1394 cable and capture video on notebook. If your camcorder is ''trully'' digital and uses hard disk to store recordings then you really have no problems, just think of camcorder as a large memory-stick and connect it in that way to your notebook. Hope this helps.
