Is it a serial or paralell drive? The chances are you have to install it in the CMOS. You can let windows do that for you. Also, you need to check to see if the jumpers are set correctly for the two (?) drives. If the main (C:) is jumpered for master only then CMOS will never see the CD rom. It needs to be jumpered for "slave present".

My cd rom in my computer hasnt worked for a while...recently my computer crashed so i thought it corrupted the cd rom but i swithched it with another cd rom from an old computer and it still doesnt work...

I just fixed a problem I had with my cd-rom where it wasn't burning my cd's. I downloaded the ASPI Driver for Windows from here and it fixed my problem. Without that driver, your cd-rom doesn't get fully reconized by the system basically. Let me know if this helps.

Need a driver for the cd rom listed above (sony cdu 4811). My computer is running Windows xp. Can't find anywhere that actually has this driver. Regards, Gary

The only driver I found was for Win95/98 (which *might* work on W2K/WXP systems). Regardless, here's the link:

You *might* have to sign up for a free membership to Driver Guide, but it's worth it ...they've got EVERY kind of driver you can image :)

Hope this helps - remember to rate! :)

Cd rom

No if the old burner is working fine you do not need to remove that...anayway even if the old drive is not properly functioning it has no effect on other drives...
You are having a another problem
1. You need to have a proper burning software to burn disks...
2. There also can be lose conections between data and power cables

Boot cd-rom type:cd-rom/non-emulation booting

No, it's because Microsoft changed the way boot CDs work with SP2. You need an old CD (Windows XP SP1). I had the same problem here, notebook without floppy, it won't boot from the newer XP version CDs (SP2 or SP3) - but an old SP1 CD works!
(Those were all original Microsoft CDs, and the SP2 / SP3 CDs boot just fine on several other PCs I tested. It's just that some old hardware has a problem with the boot mode used on newer Windows CDs.)

CD ROM doesn't detect discs at all?

My best quess wouldbe that the drive went out and you just don't realize or want to admit it. Switch it back to another system to test it, if it still dosn't work scrap it. Otherwise I would try booting to dos with an old 98se disk, see if it's your OS if it is, reinstall 2k.
