Plug it in, navigate to the files, drag them over. But the real problem then begins . . . now you must convert them to a playable file type and if you've got a mac you're screwed.

The unit is eating up the tape!

Generally speaking, there are two reasons this happens.

[1] tape recorders have to move tape past the record/playback heads at a highly consistent and accurate rate of speed. What makes this possible is a rubber "pinch" or pressure roller and a spinning metal spindle. Tape is routed between the roller and the spindle, and when the recorder is in RECORD or PLAY mode, the roller presses the tape against the spinning spindle, causing the tape to move from the feed reel to the takeup reel. When the pinch roller and/or the spindle become coated with oxide particles shed from old tapes, they get sticky and the thin tape will begin wrapping around one or the other. THE SOLUTION is to get some cotton swabs and rubbing alcohol and clean the oxide (brown from cheap tapes and dark gray from better tapes) from both of these parts.

[2] many tape recorders use rubber belts and pulleys to turn the feed reel and the takeup reel. If the tiny rubber belt that makes the take-up reel turn is stretched, it will not wind moving tape fast enough, which causes tape to bunch up. If this is the problem (you will not be able to see the belts without removing the recorder's outer case), then you might as well junk the recorder.

If you see that the part of the rubber drive roller that contacts the moving tape has a ring of brown or gray coating on it, you

How does one move the files one records from the recorder.

To email recordings from your computer that are stored in Digital Wave Player:
1) Go to your email program and open to compose a new email
2) Click on Attach
3) Your images in Digital Wave Player by default are stored on your C drive in the following directory path: C:\Documents and Settings\folder with your user name\My Documents\Digital Wave Player\Message\then folders that show Folder A, Folder B, Folder C and Folder D
3) Select the folder that has the file you want to attach to email
4) click attach and then complete the email and hit send

WS-110 memory full but no files

well, i resolved this myself by going to the sub-menu, and formatting the recorder to its original state. thankfully, i backed up the files on my computer first, so i didn't lose any data, although i did have to go in and re-set all my preferences on the recorder.
lesson: don't MOVE files from recorder to computer. copy them instead, and do the actual erasing from the physical recorder itself.
i don't know if this was the most elegant solution, but at least it did get my recorder up and running again. i'd love to hear if there is a better resolution out there.

Olymp. DS-330,None of the Buttons respond at all, only hold slider

If you remove the batteries and reinstall, does the display indicate Hold at some point? The hold button sometimes breakes and doesn't activate the switch. Pop off the hold button and move the internal switch manually.
