I have the same problem. The orig. battery died and later the adapter went[which seems to be a common problem with dell] so I got a new adapter / battery online. The adapter keeps the computer on but the battery doesn't charge and isn't recognized, any way to tell if the battery is defective before sending it back?

P.S. Reinstalled my old battery and get an orange blinking icon, don't get that with the new battery but still won't charge.

When you unplug computer(Dell E1505), the AC Power icon remains in lower right-hand corner. Double clicking reveals Power Meter window which shows, "Total battery power remaining: Unknown" and battery #1 "Not Present". Four of five lights lit(should mean 80% of charge remaining) when you press and release the status button on the battery itself. If you hold status button for 5 seconds, lights go out("battery is in good condition"). I'm baffled.

Dell PA-10 & PA-12 have internal serial ROM chips that communicate with the PC via the tiny center pin in the powerr plug.

If that pin gets bent or is not making proper contact, the laptop USUALLY complains and runs from AC adapter but refuses to recharge the battery ..

Make sure you are using a 4.62A Power Supply (90watt) some of the knock-offs are only 65w (3.34 A). And you will never have enough current to charge the battery.

It will only run the laptop, but not charge.

The mobo sounds like it is good, if you had a power issue, you would have orange lights or blinking, and it would not come on at all with any power supply.

If you have tried a new ac adapter and battery purchased from dell, then you can try a bios update but if that still doesn't work, you are looking most likely at replacing the motherboard either part#J046C, or part#N122G depending on the processor.

Battery won?t charge and AC adaptor not recognized

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 that just turned two years old.

After one year, my dell 6-cell battery started to falter, so Ipurchased a new 9-cell battery. This worked fine until a couple ofmonths ago when I noticed that my 65W adaptor was frayed. I bought anew 65W Dell Inspiron 6000 ac adapter andit worked well for about a week until I noticed that my battery wasn’tcharging at times. If I was patient, or unplugged the adapter andplugged it back in, the battery began charging and all was saved.

This lasted only a short time until my Dell Inspiron 6000 batterywouldn’t charge at all for long periods of time, and sometimes thecomputer wouldn’t turn on, even if plugged into the wall. I thought itmight still be the adaptor, so I borrowed a fully functioning 90W Delladapter from a family member to test the system. This worked better, but still not great.

When I removed the battery and started only fromAC power, the functionality was also intermittent. Usually, if thecomputer actually started, I received the start-up error “The Inspiron 6000 AC AdapterType could not be determined, etc. etc. etc.” After pressing F1, thecomputer booted, but if the battery wasn’t in, the computer didn’tusually last long before shutting off. Unsure if maybe the battery wasthe problem, I put the 6-cell Inspiron 6000 batteryback in, and it too wouldn’t charge, although (together with the 90Wadapter) my computer would at least start more consistently if pluggedin. The error remained however, and sometimes the system stopsrecognizing power and switches to my ever dwindling battery power untilthe adapter is recognized again.

The problem is with the jack on the motherboard inside our Inspiron 6000’s. This is the jack you plug your power plug into on the back of the laptop.

Somehow the jack gets worn and does not make correct contact withthe laptop so the Laptop does not see the power supply as a legit Dellbrand. So the powersupply will not charge the laptop battery and run the laptop at the same time.

DC power jack repair guide. Do-it-yourself instructions.

Modern laptops are all sold with built-in wireless laptop ac adapter. Some power notebooks used by corporate road warriors will have powerfulcellular adapters that connect the laptop to the Internet via the cellphone infrastructure

A bad connection between DC-IN power jack on the system board and the system board is a very common problem with dell pa 12,dell e1505 and Dell Inspiron 6000notebooks. If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix theproblem by resoldering DC-IN jack on the system board. If it’s stillunder warranty, it would be fixed at no charge to you. Problem symptoms:
93-06070-002_replacement-dell-pa-12.jpg
  • Laptop randomly shuts down without any warning.
  • Power LED and battery charge LED start flickering when you wigglethe power cord or the AC adapter tip on the back or your laptop.
  • The battery will not get charged.
  • When you plug ac adapter for laptop, the laptop appears to be dead and there is no LED * activity at all (DC-IN jack on the system board is broken).
To fix the problem, you have to take your laptop apart, remove the system board to resoleder or replace the DC-IN jack. dell pa 12 and Dell Inspiron 6000 disassembly guides will help you to remove the system board. Take a closer look at the power jack on the system laptop board witha magnifying glass. In most cases you get the power problem because ofa bad connection between the DC jack and the system board, you’ll see acrack between the DC jack connector and the system board.

Have a Dell D810. Battery at 75% charge. When I

Get a 90w adapter is the only resolution. The D810 on a 65w adapter will:
  1. Disable the battery charger
  2. Run slower due to throttling
The 65w adapter MAY charge the battery if the computer is not running (Not sure on that)

Dell E1505 battery shows plug i, not charging. Just replaced with new battery but still giving the same nessage.

whenevr u c this problem,,the problem cannot be only with the battery but also the adapter or with the port on the computer where the adapter pluggs in.if u hav any friends or relatives using the same computer along with the adaptor,,check with that adaptor on ur computer,,if ur friends adaptor works fine,,then the problem with the adaptor,,or else the adaptor port,,best thing call up technical support and replace it if the computer is within the warranty.coz these parts are pretty costly..

best of luck and giv a good rating,,keep me posted

Can I use ther Targus Adaptor for Inspiron 1525

On the long term, a power adapter with a bigger amperage can damage battery and battery charger.

Better to get an adapter with same specs as the 65/70W one , or an original replacemant:

AC Adapters in laptops

It is not a special chip that dictates if a charger can charge a certain laptop, but these two factors:

1) You need to have a power adapter/charger with the correct voltage and amps. Some common Dell laptops use 19.5V (volts) and 4.62A (amps). I have seen some Dell adapters with 3.34A (amps) as well. If you use an adapter with the wrong voltage and amperage, you could cause damage to the laptop's power supply and/or motherboard...or it just won't work at all.

2) The type of connector to the laptop. Different manufacturer's use physically different connector sizes and shapes. Some are larger and circular with a pin in the middle, while some are smaller with no pin. It depends on the laptop.

You can look at the voltage of the original charger on the brick part (the middle of the cord that looks like a brick). Make sure you get one that matches exactly.

Having problem with DELL E1050 Adaptor

if the laptop is getting power from the adaptor but the battery isn't charging it is one of two things. Either the charging leads inside the laptop are broken or have no connection to the battery OR the battery itself is bad. To test the battery try to find someone with the same computer and try your battery in their computer if everything checks out it is a problem with the computer. I sure wish they would get this power stuff strait with laptops. Its been how many years now??

Dell latitude D600 battery charge light flashing

my suggestion is that you allow the batteries to fully recharge(which only happens when the computer is fully off, when the battery is deep discharged.

that will take around 6 to 10 hours each..
