Missing recovery programme

Hi my recovery programme has been corrupted and don't have my restore cd's as well. My sony media center is not working hence need a clean re install...can someone help me pls?

    Hi Mike, Appreciate your help . I have yet another PC which is Sony Vaio VGC-M1 which has similar media package basically i need to know whether can the details be reinstated on my current PC i.e. using the other computer software?



    1202 -0 -0 - 20224-220 this is the error code I get when I try to get on the multi media package (Sony Vaio Media) TV / Audio / Video / CD/DVD , also DVD drive is not functioning !

Hi kattas, do you know if any of your friends that may also use windows media center edition in their PC?
If one does have the Windows Media Center CD you can use their CD to reinstall that over your PC's corrupt system. Located on your case is a Microsoft sticker & on that sticker is your CD-key for installing Media Center. The CD-key is specific for your Sony. Any Media Center CD will function & install over your corrupted current version. (Your not going to run format, your just going to boot to the CD & reinstall Windows). Please post your Sony's model number here so I can post Sony's web site link for you to download your driver software.
As a last option you can contact Sony & order new CD's for your model. You can click this link (to call Sony).

Miscellaneous corruption

Before trying any of the below recommendations it's recommend that you load the last known good configuration.

Corrupt boot.ini file

This issue is often caused when the boot.ini is missing or improperly configured. This issue often arises after a user has recently added or removed an operating system on the computer or added or removed hard disk drives in the computer.

Make sure the line pointing to the operating system and its drive and partition is properly configured in the [boot loader] and [operating systems] section.

Missing boot.ini file

Microsoft Windows XP users:

If the boot.ini is severely corrupted or missing a user running Microsoft Windows XP can rebuild the boot.ini to resolve this issue.

Microsoft Windows NT and Windows 2000 users:

To restore the original boot.ini file in Microsoft Windows NT or Windows 2000 you will need an ERD and follow the below steps. If you do not have an ERD you will be unable to follow these steps.

  1. Boot the computer with your Windows NT three setup diskettes or the Windows 2000 setup disc.
  2. In the setup menu, type R to start the repair.
  3. When prompted for the ERD diskette insert the diskette and inspect the startup environment.

Missing or corrupt ntoskrnl.exe file

If the ntoskrnl.exe file is corrupt or missing this can also generate the error. To restore this file follow the below steps.

  1. Insert the Microsoft Windows XP CD. Note: If you have a recovery CD or a restore CD and not a Microsoft Windows XP CD it is likely the below steps will not resolve your issue.
  2. Reboot the computer, as the computer is starting you should see a message to press any key to boot from the CD. When you see this message press any key.

Check the hard disk drive for any errors by running the chkdsk program. To do this follow the below steps.

Do you know where I can find a recovery disc for an HP 873n Media Center PC? I called hp and they don't have one.


Hi,
You are correct HP do not provide the recovery disks for this Media Center anymore.

I've just about searched the net for anyone who may have recovery CD's for sale but no no avail.

If you can still get into the operating system use HP Backup and Recovery Manager, its quick and user-friendly. To run, simply go to All Programs > HP Backup & Recovery > HP Backup and Recovery Manager. With HP Backup & Recovery Manager, file restoration is easy. To recover a deleted file, simply use the Restore Wizard.

For a full system restoration, press the F11 key during boot up and then select "Recover PC" from the menu if there is a recovery partition available (sometimes you have to hold down Ctrl and hit the F11 key on boot up)

Other than that you may have to purchase a Windows XP or Windows XP Media Center installation CD from a reputable store like PC World for example.

if you have a windows cd you can do a system restore from it or at the boot screen some computers have a system recovery so you can use system restore without a disk, if you can use system restore, restore your computer to a earlier time and that should solve your problem

im afraid the only way i can think of is get you hands on a dell reinstallation cd and use it. it will mean eraesing your harddrive though

Try restoring your PC to a date when it last worked, probably corrupt drivers or can also be caused by installing or uninstalling software or your Anti-Virus or Internet Security program

start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> System Restore
Click Restore my computer to an earlier dat

After system recovery to factory image everything works like new but..computer doesn't see DVD-RAM i did install driver from HP support site install correctly still doesn't work--device manager shows...


Remove it from device manager by right clicking it and selecting uninstall, reboot and let windows auto detect it again, reload your drivers, visit the manufacturers website for the correct drivers.
