Lens Error Message

I have had my camera for about a year, and it was working great. Then all of a sudden I am receiving "Lens Error" messages and the camera won't do anything until I turn it off.

    Hi,

Same here, had the camera for 2 years and now I'm getting lens error. Must be a design fault. I can not even find my reciept to return it and I'm going away in a week on holiday and could really do with having it fixed or replaced.

my zoom lense will not close when I shut the camera off. Also the Wide and tight angle button does not work. If you know how to fix this please send me an e mail at mrpoland@juno.com

I was getting a lens error message when turning on my camera and hence couldn't use it.

To fix it, when turning on the camera continue holding down the power button and then press the zoom in button (T on mine) and hold it. This forced the lens to stay zoomed and then it just started working again. Hope this helps!!!

Hi there

I had the same problem a year after I bought my camera. I returned it to Nikon and they fixed it and returned it. The problem reoccurred 3 times and each times Nikon repaired it free of charge. Then after a year it went again and, when I returned it to Nikon they sent me a new camera. Within a couple of months the new camera had the same problem. I have since resolved it with new batteries! The original coolpix rechargeable batteries do not seem to recharge properly so when I put ordinary AA batteries in it suddenly worked. Good luck.

My lens 28-75.Has worked fine for a year.

I have a lens like yours but mine ( I don't think) will fit a Pentax. I had the same problem. I thought it was the camera. So I took them both to the camera shop. When I was told that the lens was the problem I bought a new lens. I still have this one and if you find a fix for it I'd like to try it on mine.

Lens error= restart camera - this is the message I am receiveing from my cannon SX110 IS

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

"Lens error - restart camera" message, but won't restart

I just had the same issue when one of my children drop the camera. I'm not wanting to break anyone's camera but I was able to open the lens cover and pull the lens out and then turning it on it retracted and worked just like it should.

Focus error message camera wontwork

I found this site to solve this problem. I got as far as tapping the lens, while turning it off. That worked but I still could not take pictures, so, I got the idea to put slight pressure on the lens when turning the camera on and was delighted to see that the error message was gone. Then, reluctantly, I snapped a picture...It worked. Hope this helps u 2..

take your finger and slide it inside the lens and pull it out slightly, not all the way but enough that it moves. then hit the power button and it should work fine after that. good luck!
