Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I was recently told by my local technician that the hard drive on my 18-month old HP Laptop has failed (and not due to a bug). My technician said I have two options: (1) buy a new computer; or buy a new Hard Drive for my HP laptop. Any suggestions?

Hp laptop freezes and the screen goes blue with a crashdown message

If you haven't done anything to it recently, the most likely culprits are: 1) an infection (virus, trojan, malware, etc.) 2) Failing hard drive, or 3) faulty memory. Unless you know how to diagnose and correct these problems yourself, you are going to need professional help. If it's still under warranty, call the manufacturer. If not, find someone you know near you that knows computer HARDWARE, or a local shop.

Hi there. I have a Compaq B 2800 laotop. Due to some current fluctuiations, a couple of components on the MotherBoard got dysfunctional. Technicians told me that since the PCB also got spolied due to some...

The technician is correct. Depending upon the age of the laptop a replacement motherboard may not be available from the laptop manufacture. You need to check with the HP/Compaq laptop manufacturer.
Laptop have specifically designed motherboards from that manufacturer and are not interchangeable like desktop motherboards.
In most cases it is more cost affective to write off this laptop and purchase a new laptop which will be better, faster and cheaper than the old laptop.
If the hard disk is OK, you can remove it from the old laptop and install it into an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an external USB hard drive.

If you do not want to repair the laptop, you can remove the hard drive from the laptop and put the hard drive in an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an external USB hard drive. To free up disk space on this hard drive, just delete the Windows folder and programs off this hard drive and just leave your data files.

Still got my clicking coming from inside my laptop

Usually, the clicking means your hard drive is about to fail. Unfortunately, there is no much you can do about it. Since your PC is 4 months old, you should still be under warranty. Just ask them to replace it.

If they won't, you can get pick a brand new one online at decent prices.

Good luck

Laptop screen flickered, went grey and now won't come on

The video chip is on the motherboard, would not be cost effective to replace, and the motherboard replacement would not be cheap. Get a quote first, they could charge for a quote and then offset it against the repair cost should you go ahead.

I suggest that you put the money towards a new laptop, it would be better, faster, than your old one.
You can use your old laptop for parts.
Remove the hard drive and place it into an external USB hard drive case, to use as an external data or backup drive. Use the RAM to increase the memory capacity of your new laptop.
