Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I was recently told by my local technician that the hard drive on my 18-month old HP Laptop has failed (and not due to a bug). My technician said I have two options: (1) buy a new computer; or buy a new Hard Drive for my HP laptop. Any suggestions?

PC don't recognize my HDD'S on boot.

I had a problem with a Seagate external hard drive, recently, where the PC didn't recognize the HDD on startup. BUT, if I unplugged the drive and plugged it back in (usb or power connection) after the boot was completed the system recognized it.

Turns out that I had to get a patch for the driver from Seagate for my specific brand new HP i7 computer.

I had to call technical support patiently have them walk me through all the stuff that I had already tried and, when I told them it didn't work, they had me try it on my other laptop. It worked, so, they gave me the web link to download a patch for that specific problem.

It's common when one or both manufacturers come out with brand new products that they're still getting the bugs out of...

Major HP crash

i think you got the wrong disks man, nothing to do with the motherboard.

a clean installation

it is recommended to this service at least
once every 8 months, it wipes all your hard
drive from data, programs, bugs, errors and viruses
this will 100% solve your problem guaranteed.

for xp, insert the xp installation disk
restart the computer and a message will
come up asking to press any key to boot
from cd. once you do that "i mean you press a key"
then a blue screen will load then asks you
to press Enter to install xp.

1. press enter
2. select the partion and press enter
3. select continue "it warns you to delete files"
4. select format "quick"
5. now let it do the rest and follow instructions
6. when the installation is finished you'll notice
its like new again, some computers will need
drivers which you can get from manufacturer
website. download and install them.

that's it but for a detailed information click here

I have a HP laptop that is about 18 months old. It's been working fine except battery is too low to run without using elec. cord. I used it yesterday, turned it off, then went to start it today and the...

I had the same exact problem letter for letter except mine was a COMPAQ Presario F730US. I Bought an external 2.5 inch usb hard drive case and placed my hard drive from the laptop in it. I backed up all my files to my desktop making a mirror image of the hard drive. Then I wiped the Hard drive with wipe disk to destroy all my personal data and put the hard drive back in the laptop. I then sent it in for warranty repair for free. It took two weeks to get it back. I bought a new battey(12 cell) on ebay. Then I pulled the hard drive out of the now repaired laptop, put it back in the external usb case, formatted it NTSF and copied the mirror image of the drive back to it. I installed the hard drive back in the rejuvinated laptop, Installed the new battery, and powered it up. Fired up like it never happened. I did not lose 1 bit of data. The reason you make the mirror image with norton ghost is so you do not have to spend a month reinstalling all your apps and preferences. Follow these instructions to the letter and the result will be the same.
As you say you still under warranty get hoppin on this and it will only cost you 15 bucks for the external case and a new battery, which I recommend you get from ebay and not the manufacturer.(1/3 the price).

Hope this helps you,
George

Smart report hard drive failure iminent

Hey 72cobrajet,

If you are receiving this kind of error message, it can often be an indicator that a self-diagnostic tool has determined that your computer may be suffering from a hardware failure.

Whenever your computer starts up, it performs a self-test to ensure that everything is working properly. If your computer detects anything out of the ordinary, it generally prompts you with an error message indicating what the problem may be.

While your computer may seem to function normally at this time, I would strongly suggest backing up any necessary information as soon as possible to avoid any potential loss.

In some instances, you may be able to determine the exact reason why you are receiving an error message by using a software tool developed by either Microsoft or the hard drive manufacturer itself. Please keep in mind however, that you may receive more detailed and product-specific support when using a manufacturer-developed diagnostic utility over Microsoft's CHKDSK.

If you are unsure how to use any these programs and are still under the manufacturer's warranty, you may wish to contact HP directly for further assistance. Additionally, if you would prefer to not work directly with HP, you may always bring your computer into your local Best Buy™ store for warranty service and support.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

Clicking Harddrive

Loud Clicking CAN be a symptom of a failing hard drive. Generally it is also associated with a boot failure though (It is called the Click of Death). If the system is booting normally, there may be a different source for the noise. Most desktop systems have a minimum of 2 cooling fans, higher powered ones can have 5 or more. Many moving parts in the system can cause a click.

I would suggest you remove the side cover of the tower, and see if you can localize the source of the noise. (The instructions for your system can be found on http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/siteHome?dlc=en&lc=en&cc=us

Once you localize the source of the noise, you can address the problem.
