Question about Kirby Vacuums

Kirby 2001 Limited Edition

Vacuum is not picking up very much debris from the carpet and the little that it is is being blown back out through the sides. It is doing completely the opposite to what it should - blowing air out instead of sucking it up. (I have checked that the bag is not full)/ I had someone looking after my house while I was away but cannot contact this person. I feel she may have done something quite simple for this problem to have occurred and I hope you can help me. It may take just the flick of a switch, although I've tried just about everything.
Thank you for your time.

Ckeck the wireing to the moter for polarization problems.
reverise current polarization could in theroy cause the moter to run in a reverse direction thus causing it to become a blower.

It sounds as if you have a clog inside the "Power Nozzel". They mention that there are "no user serviceable parts within the Majestic® Power Nozzle" My advice would be to see if you can see a clog with in reachable distance and try to remove the clog. One way to check for a clog which may work for you is to remove the attachment and shine a flashlight on one of of the attachment and look through the other side and see if you see light, if no light, most likely a clog. Past that you might void the warrenty if you try and open it up the Power Nozzel itself. You may want to ask a Phone service rep about clog removal.

Does not pick up lint on carpet

I have a four suggestions. First, check the wand and see if the suction vent is completely closed. If this little vent has the slightest opening, the suction is reduced. cSecond,if that's not the case, you might want to check the brush/roller area. Threads and fibers caught on the brushes can prevent the vacuum from picking up lint. Third, make sure there are no fibers in the wheel of the vacuum head. And fourth, make sure the bag is not full! I often forget to check and back and a full bag is one of the main reasons a vacuum will not pick up items. I hope this helps. If one of my suggestions solves your problem, please contact Fixya and rate my solution!

Does not pick up

Hi There,

It may be that your belt is broken, or stretched out. This will cause the brushes to slow down dramatically when vacuuming the carpets. When the belt stretches, this causes the machine not to pick up on the carpets, and makes it seem that the vacuum is loosing suction.

In order to test this, turn the vacuum on it's side while it's on. Are the brushes spinning? If they aren't, this is because your belt is broken. If the brushes are spinning, the belt still may be stretched. Listen to the brushes as you put them onto the carpet. Can you hear a change in the sound like the brushes are slowing down? If you put just a little pressure on the top of the vacuum by stepping on it, do the brushes stop then?

It may also be the filter is clogged in the machine and needs to be replaced. Bagless vacuums use a HEPA filter in the dirt cup instead of a bag. With a bagged vacuum you just replace the bag when it gets full, but on a bagless vacuum the HEPA filter continually gets debris and fine dust accumulating on it, and needs to be cleaned, and replaced occasionally.

Here's a link to the owners manual for your vacuum. This will explain step by step on how to replace the belt, as well as servicing the filter.

My vaccume has little suction

Hello :

1: Check that the Dyson's brushbar knob is turned to the "Carpets" setting for vacuuming non-delicate and raised pile carpet. Vacuuming carpet on the "Bare floor" setting usually leaves a telltale single wheel mark on the pile, and pickup is severely limited.

2:Locate the removable filter on the side of the vacuum. It will be marked with a raised circular representation.

3:Press down on the release button with your thumb as you lift filter housing up and out

4:Examine the filter for debris. Wash the blue foam and yellow framed filter in cold water. (See Tips section.) Let dry for 12 hours. Do not wash the outer filter housing that snaps into the vacuum; simply wipe clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Replace the filter when completely dry.

5:Locate the airway inspection valve on the opposite side of the vacuum. Press the release button as you lift the valve up and away from the machine.

6:Remove any debris or clogs you find inside.

7:Use a soft cloth to clean up lighter debris and completely clear the airway valve.

8:Tip the Dyson vacuum over to find the U-bend at the back of the unit. Press the release button as you pull the U-bend down and away from the machine.

9:Inspect the U-bend and remove debris. Be sure to line up the release button as you snap the U-bend back into place.

10:Check all removable pieces to be sure they are attached properly and snapped correctly into place. The soleplate should be flush with the cleanerhead.

What you need for this :

  • Large slotted screwdriver
  • Scissors
  • Washcloth
  • Soft cleaning cloths
  • Household surface cleaner, safe for plastics
  • Crochet hook or similar long-handled tool

Warning :

Unplug the vacuum before doing any troubleshooting. Follow all manufacturer's instructions and warnings. The yellow encased filter and blue foam filter pad can be submerged and rinsed in cold water only. Do not use detergent. Do not wash or dry in dish or laundry machines. Do not dry in the oven or microwave.

Not picking up fuzz

I've had a similar problem with my DC07 Animal, although there WAS suction and the machine seemed in otherwise good condition, the vacuum seemed to be working normally, yet very little was vacuumed up. I would go over and over sections of carpet and get very little debris in the container. In my case, the cleaning brush roller bar was competely covered in debris (hair, dirt, string, stuffing from our chewed up dog toys, etc.). I removed the bottom cover and manually removed all this debris from the cleaner/brush roller, reattached the cover and it worked like new with great suction.
