Question about Gateway FPD1760 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Screen completely white

When I turn on my monitor (Gateway FPD1760 17 in. Flatscreen) the screen is completely white. The buttons on the panel don't seem to have any effect. I know it is not my computer because I have hooked up a different monitor, and it works fine. Any suggestions?

One gets to open it up and find out where the signal from the computer is lay aside. Hunt up the model number on the inside of the monitor (the ODM part numbers) for the service manuals if you can use them. Otherwise you can call Gateway or look for a shop (sometimes even buy repair insurance coverage with the thing in that nonfunctional state.)

tgordon60, If you know how those NEW "CURLIE-Q" energy efficient CFL light bulbs produce WHITE LIGHT, then you will know what makes an LCD display panel produce all the pretty colors and the WHITE BACKGROUND of the FIXYA web page!!! Only difference is that your "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" are thinner and straight, and hung on rear of LCD glass panel and have a DC to AC electronic ballast called an "INVERTER" circuit to produce 600 to 1000vac to light them up. Get to my FIXYA profile and read my responses to other BLACK screen lcd owners to learn about all your options for repair. Follow any of the links to other web pages you find there. Your monitor not any different than ACER, DELL, VIEWSONIC, BENQ, SONY, AOC!!!!! 12fixlouie aka louie12fix

Same problem - unplug both computer and monitor - hold power button for monitor for 15-30 seconds...then power it back on and then power on the computer. Seems from other sites there is a power issue with the monitor - this worked for me.

Monitor displays white screen when connected and powered.

You've done sensible substitutions and it does sound like dead monitor.
The white screen is due to no pixels being controlled at all; what you are seeing is an unpolarized view of the backlight.

It's conceivable that a power supply problem is at fault in the display since it is unusual to lose all control over the screen as this has done.
The cause has to be common to all of the drive circuitry in the monitor and sounds like a job for a tech.

9 months? Is the warranty coverage known?
Unfortunately, warranties seem shorter all the time but it might be worth a shot to locate and email an inquiry to the manufacturer.

There is a problem with the power supply cable to this monitor. You need to have a new one put on. An easy way to test this is to get it to a shop so they can test the cable.

Black Line Across Screen

It's almost certainly a bad connection inside where the mylar strips attach to the LCD. If this is under warranty, you should contact Gateway. If it's out of warranty, it's not economical to repair this problem. It would require a whole new LCD panel, and - believe it or not - that part's cost usually exceeds the price of the monitor!
