Question about JVC AV-56WP74 56" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Help with the green.

The TV worked fine one day and the next it had the red, blue, and green lines making the picture warped. I took off the front panel and adjusted as best I could and found that all the bulbs worked but only could adjust red and blue. I'm not sure what the problem really is since the green bulb works but can't be adjusted. I'm a noob at this but learn fast so any referance would be helpful.

This is caused by failing convergence ic's. They take the image from the three picture tubes and align them so that one picture is displayed not three. They are the two large ic's on the biggest heat sink in the front of the tv, but changing them can be tricky b/c resistors feeding voltage to those chips may be bad to. It is a simple repair to a qualified technician but a major headache to a novice. It is economical to repair but I would leave it to the pro's. Hope this helped.

Mitsubishi WS55859, was getting 2 and 2 blink, replaced the pico fuses and convergence chip - 3 times, each fix worked better than the next but evenually failed - now have it working, trying to adjust...

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Green screen with red and blue wavy lines

This is "NOT" meant as "expert" advice...as this is not my area...HOWEVER...I see no one has answered this yet...AND I got some good help from here a year or so ago that worked for me!

When I had a similar "green screen" problem with my SONY projection tv...the guy helped me by having me make "MINOR" adjustments to the red/blue/green etc knobs behind the panel. These were three small black plastic pieces and needed less than a 1/16 of an inch adjustment...try adjusting one at a time and giving it few seconds after each adjustment. It worked for me..at least for a while (till my wife gave it away to a friend because it was "too big"...ah! women!!! LOL)...hope this helps. (NON-expert help!)

Could you show a picture of the distended cover you mentioned?

Were the light blue lines you were referring to, diagonal, or truly horizontal?
