Dvd no read error

The 'NoRead' error points to a faulty DVD-RAM drive. If the drive is making clunking/whirring noises, and taking too long to read an inserted disc, chances are the traverse unit (spindle motor/laser assembly) within the drive has failed. Unfortunately, this part cannot be replaced; you would need to replace the whole drive.

Look around for a good cheap used one, or, if you are prepared to do so, order a new drive (brand new DVD-RAM drives ordered through Panasonic could cost a couple of hundred dollars or more though so be warned). Check the model number on the top of the drive (prefixed with VXY before considering any replacement.

Unit plays video but not DVD. Once inserted, disc makes a repetitive whirring sound until display reads NoRead. I have had the unit inspected by Panasonic authorised repairer (2 months out of...

Sorry but the 'NoRead' error is usually the result of the DVD-RAM drive failing or it has failed, in which case a replacement drive is the only solution - $450 for a new drive - plus labour on top = more than the whole unit is worth new. Not only that, but the service agents will probably need to upgrade and reconfigure software as well, then there is the prolonged and exhaustive soak-testing...

I believe for similar money, you could get a Panasonic DMR-EZ48V with 24 month (or optional extended warranty - extra 3-4 years) on all parts and labour (compared to spending the same on repairs to your EZ47V) or you could save those pennies and invest in perhaps a better more reliable brand and model of DVD recorder (if that's what you want to use). You could also try (for zero cost) a cleaning and checking procedure (if unit is not under warranty) found within FixYa and similar websites. Good luck in your venture!

THESE UNITS HAVE SOFTWARE ISSUES. THE ONLY WAY TO HAVE IT FIXED, IF "IT IS THE SOFTWARE" IS TO HAVE IT SENT TO SONY FOR SOFTWARE UPGRADE. THE UNITS USE UNIX AND THE CODE IS NOT OPEN.
PER TO WHAT SONY SAYS YOU NEED TO.
Please send the unit to Sony Service Center for upgrade.
