Cord from hoodie caught around shaft

Top loading older washer. I was washing a sweatshirt that has a cord running through the hoodie part.  I've washed hoodies hundred of times before with no problem, but this time a cord wrapped around the agitator shaft at the very bottom.  Is there a way to get the plastic shaft cover off so that I can untangle the cord.  Help!

Clothing gets caught under the agitator wings like sleeves on shirts, strings on clothing ie hooded sweatshirts.

This is something that happens with most top-load washing machines. As long as the agitator has wings, stuff will get under them. That is one reason that front-load machines are becoming more popular.

How can you prevent zipper pulls from breaking during the spin cycle in the washer

You can get Washing bags! I've seen them in Kleeneze If you have a person that posts the booklets in your letter box then you will find them in there. Or if you don't you can look here >

Plus look in stores like Instore,Poundstrecher, Wilkinson's etc
Good luck

A sweatshirt cord is wrapped around my HotPoint top load washing machine. The machine is 18 years old. Can I pull off the agitator to retreive the string?

If it's wrapped around up underneath the agitator you can.

Have you tried just figuring out which way it was wrapped?

Keep a can of WD-40 handy.

Parts of clothes get stuck in edge of dryer...seems to burn them.

I have had this same problem with my stack-able dryer. It was leaving small burns on my kids clothes and my good sheets. My dryer has a felt-like seal at the front of the drum. If this seal is worn, torn, or missing, the clothes in the dryer can get caught and scorched or torn in the space between the clothes drum and the front of the dryer interior. My seal was worn out, so I needed to replace it. I had someone come in and do the work the first time but when it wore out again I just order the part and replaced it myself. It is fixable:)
