Re: MONITOR OR IS IT COMPUTER
Check your video card is seated correctly in the computer.
Disconnect the power and video cable first.
Open the side panel, lift the card up and push it back into the slot with a gentle side to side wiggle as you go.
Also if possible try another video card.
Another thing is to check is if your computer has onboard video. It will be a blue socket on the motherboard at the rear panel where your USB ports etc are.

On the majority of monitors the monitor goes into sleep mode when there is no input, but to turn off monitors altogether, on most monitors you press the power button to turn off the monitor altogether.
try another cable I have tis problem on mine & I have to do them up solid, also check for bent pins in the cable & bend the back carefully & unplugged. If not you may need to set up the computer to output, try another monitor to rule that out.
Hope this helps!
I had a similar problem whereas my monitor went to sleep mode after a few minutes. I'm running an HP LP 2065 in dual mode with another HP flat screen. However, I did resolve the issue after resetting the output settings.
How to do that:
right mouse click on the desktop
select graphic options
Maybe some changings/modification will help you too.
(if you have an orange light) Turn off your computer and unplug all of your devices, printer, scanner etc... Only your monitor, mouse, keybord and monitor should be connected. Now turn on your computer. It should work now. You can attach your other devices if you are successful.
