Actually, you shouldn't need to remove it from the wall to change the door switches or latch head.

We have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

We have a partial service manual for that unit at our site, and it has the wiring diagram (helpful to be sure it all gets back right).

The manual is at http://www.microwavedisplay.com/r1380_r1381_sm.pdf

Feel free to contact me directly if you have other questions.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

I have a problem with my Sharp Carousel R 1480. The door will not latch and the light will not go out. The hooks on the actual door seem to be in place and working like normal so Im assuming it is...

We have the full service manual at our site here.

If you gently push up on the door latch heads (hook-like devices sticking out of the door) there should be spring tension. If they just flop right up, the spring is off inside.

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

In some cases, you problem may be a damaged latch head, which is an odd name for what I would call a door switch holder.

Our file on door switches is here.

You can order parts from Encompass Encompass here or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

Microwave will not start.

It will probably be a bad door switch or a loose, misaligned, or broken switch mount.

The door switch to be concerned with is usually the bottom switch on Sharp models.

It will NOT be the middle switch, and not the one with thinner red / green wires.

See these files:

http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt http://www.microwavedisplay.com/disassembly.txt http://www.microwavedisplay.com/doorsw.txt

If you only need a switch, you can order a universal type here for $5 postpaid.

If you need more help, please post a NEW question, and please include your brand name and the full model number from the tag in or on the unit.

How to install latch and spring in microwave door

You need to know where the 'catches' are inside the choke cover on the door to remove it carefully without breaking anything or marring the cover. You might get inside and find that the post for mounting the return spring has broken and that is part of the outer door panel.

We have an old Sharp Carousel R-1440 that works great, except for the door latch broke (i.e. doesn't work at all now). Can we replace just the door?

R1381 Sharp Carousel over the range microwave

I know this is late, but I have instructions for this unit. Remove the grease filters on the bottom. Inside the exposed hole there should be two gold colored bars. These are attached to plates at the top of the until which hook onto the mounting plate. Undo the screws at the bottoms of the bars and pull them down. This will unhook the unit from the top of the wall plate. Roll the unit forward and unhook from wall plate.
