Question about Dell LATITUDE C640, P4 1.7G,256/20G,14.1,CDRW,NIC 5+ PP01L PC Notebook
I have a Toshiba satellite M35X-S161 that will not allow me to get on to window. It let me boot up to toshiba and then I get a blank screen.
I have the same problem, this is a relatively new problem after having a multitude of other problems and upgrading to an HP.
Anyway, this has not fixed the problem, but tapping many times at boot up, the little white upraised mechanical sensor at the front right above the keyboard near the TFT helps on occassion to get an active screen.
However, my DC jack is going out for at least the 5 th time, and my extended 3 year warranty has run out, but POMEROY Computing (goog) fixes these for $60 and $20 shipping and provide a 1 year warranty.

When you first received the laptop and turned it on ,it would have asked you to make a recovery disc, if you made one
put it in the cd drive and boot up to recover your hard drive,
or when you boot the laptop up, it will tell you what button to push (sometimes F11) to go to the recovery partition, and restore it back to the factory settings, read the manual.
you may need to reboot a number of times to catch what it says if you don't have the manual,
then you will be asked if you want a destructive recovery (lose all date) or not ,this depends why you want to clean the hard drive.
a none destructive will leave your programs on the hard drive and restore only the operating system & drivers.
