Went back to shop today and the guy in the shop produced an e-mail from
HP extending the warranty on my type of laptops. The e-mail was
intended fot the USA, but appearantly it is valid world wide. Makes one
think of dodgy batches. Anyway the shop took back my lap top and have
sent it to be repaired. I guess HP will just replace mother board. So
if anybody there has a problem out of warranty, it might be worth
    cheching your serial number.
Once again thanks for your help and advice and so long for a while from Ireland.
    Dave

So what did hp advise exactly.you could try removing rtc battery and see if it (bios)resets but I dont know yet exactly what youve done.you may need bios flash files installed on a floppy and reflash bios(depending what youve done this is the only left solution)

My computer wont start on after bios update failure

And nothing will happen. Do not PERFORM BIOS UPDATE unless strictly necessary. Do not perform BIOS UPDATE without CHARGER plugged in and be sure you have enough power for 10 minutes. NOW... If you are lucky, in service they will be able to REWRITE your BIOS. Check HP website for service in your area. If not, your motherboard will have to be replaced. Good luck. Keep us informed of the results.

If computer SHUT DOWN while reading BIOS FILES you might have a little chance to repair it. Unplug battery. Charger must not be connected. Press POWER for 30-40 seconds. Plug back battery. Press power. And pray before this.
IF this will not repair it... the two options described before will...

How to restore corrupted BIOS of presario cq60 laptop

Whenever you upgrade the BIOS on your notebook, a copy of the previous version is stored in the HP TOOLS partition of your hard disk drive. Many HP notebook computers have an emergency BIOS recovery feature that allows you to recover and install the last known good version of the BIOS from the hard drive, as long as the hard drive remains functional. This emergency recovery feature is separate from the BIOS and is designed to work in the event of a catastrophic BIOS failure. To recover an earlier version of the BIOS on your notebook:
  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Plug the notebook into power using the power adapter.
  3. Press and hold the Windows key and the B key down at the same time while the computer is off.
  4. Still pressing those keys, press and hold down the Power button on the notebook for 3 seconds and then release the Power button and the keys. The screen remains blank for about 40 seconds before anything appears on the display. You might also hear beeping sounds. Eventually, an HP BIOS Update screen displays.note.pngNOTE:If the computer fails to display an HP BIOS Update screen, press and hold the Power button for 5 seconds to turn off the computer. Wait 5 seconds and try again. If, after repeated attempts, you cannot open the HP BIOS Update screen, your computer does not support this function or it has a hardware problem that is preventing the tool from opening.Figure 1: HP BIOS Update screenc03376208.jpg
  5. When the BIOS has been recovered, a Continue Startup button displays and timer counts down. You can click Continue Startup to restart the computer or you can allow the timer to reach zero and the computer will restart automatically.Figure 2: HP BIOS Update screenc03376209.jpg
  6. After restoring the BIOS, if the computer repeatedly displays a message that the BIOS has been reset, then perform the steps in HP BIOS Application Selected is Corrupt or Missing .
  7. After restarting, Windows may display a message stating that the computer was improperly shut down or that a boot problem was detected. Read and respond to the screens to continue.

Dv6000 will not startup ,Black screen , hd isnit being accessed

When you first turn the laptop on is there a HP splash screen? Can you enter the BIOS (normally by tapping F2 or Del key). If so then it would seem the BIOS updated OK. If when you turn it on there is nothing the BIOS flash probably went wrong and the machine will need a new BIOS flash chip installed.
If you can access BIOS then it may be a simple problem that the new BIOS reverted to default values. The most common issue would be the boot mode of the HDD. Look through the BIOS menus and there should be an option for boot which will say AHCI/IDE/Compatibility. Try changing it to another option, save and exit BIOS and see if that helps. Try this for each option.
Alternatively tap F8 continuously when you turn the laptop on and see if the advanced boot menu appears, if it does try selecting Safe mode with networking.
Finally to test if the HDD is actually working, try downloading Hiren's BootCD and boot to it. Then run some HDD diagnostics to see if the HDD is operating correctly.
Hope this helps,

I updated BIOs and now every thing is gone.

Okay, sounds like your BIOS upgrade went south. First off, re-install the original BIOS. Usually you back up the original before upgrading. Either that, or d/l the original BIOS from emachines.com. Once you've got the BIOS working, try starting the system. I'll need to know more to help you from there.

Biostar P4M900-M7 SE BIOS ROM Checksum Error

The bios upgrade procedure stopped at half , leaving the bios corrupted. The computer now cannot do a regular boot procedure, this is the reason why it cannot recognise some device. If you are still able to boot from floppy, you can restart bios upgrade procedure from floppy. Just download floppy version upgrade and re do setup. Even if you do not find latest bios version, just download a floppy upgrade that is working, so that you can restart your machine regularly , and then do the update to latest version.
If you are not able to complete the bios setup, the only way to fix your motherboard will be flashing the CMOS chipset with a chip programmer device that will reinstall bios straight into cmos chipset.
You can have this done at the service point, in this case consider also replacing your motherboard.

Up dated Bios

first make sure you have the correct file, then you need to make sure you know how to do that. A botched "flash" will ruin your entire system. also take out the battery and only use the power cord.
