I have the same problem. It started doing it part of the time and would sometimes open only halfway, but I could gently push it to stay open and take pictures. Now it won't open at all. Now I can't even push it to stay open. Is there a way I can fix it or remove the plastic so my camera isn't a total loss?

This lens cover problem happened to my camera as well. It was only after 4 months of use. It usually opens only half way. It still takes decent pictures, but I will never get another panasonic camera!

Fed up with the zero response from Lumix, Panasonic and Matsushita I came up with my own solution.......I bought a Canon Digital as replacement. 9 Mega Pixels, 4 times digital zoom and 20% approx. of the price I paid for the heap - of - **** Lumix.
Bye- bye Lumix, Pana and Matsu....you wont be seeing me as a customer again.

When turn it on the lens will come out but the cover that is over the glass part of the lens wont open

This is a common problem to deal with in all these type of cameras. You can take the camera apart going slowly and you will need a small philips and straight screwdriver. It is easy to do but time consuming. Once you get the lens apart you can see the spring that holds onto the side and either super glue it if the plastic is broken or remove it all together. I would rather try to fix it. Let me know how it goes.

Panasonic Lumix camera

There should be a button on the camera to turn on the LCD screen so you can see whats going on. Here is a link to the manual. http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/DMCLZ1.PDF Look on page 10, button 6. After the camera is turned on, wait 20 seconds, then hit that button and see if the screen turns on. Hope that helps.
