5 red flashes is a bad panel connection or internal panel short, very carefully take the panel connectors off and reseat them and see if that helps, unfortunately you may have a bad panel.

Switch off the TV from remote, then switch off the on/off button on the TV, remove the plug pin from the power outlet. Cool off for 48 hours and then retry. If nothing works, better refer it to a qualified service technician.
the green light blinking is normal if set has been unplugged--when set is plugged back it should blink for about 70 seconds and then go out--then you can try to turn it on---it is the DM unit inside the set booting up.
If the light just blinks and never stops you have likely bad caps in the DM unit---there are kits available for that.
The other possible reason is that so called reset switch may be bad--fairly easy way to find that out and it is more common than you would think, let me know if you have questions.
the problem on you tv is the fan is not working this is the big fan you see on the back of your unit , is very ease to replace take cover off and you would see the fan , when you look the tv from the back look at you left and there is , you may want to call sony that way you would get the right part , i have fix a lot of this tv with this problem
fail safe mode usually is caused by a short on your main bd. but if its a DLP or LCD projection tv to replace the lamp the door sometimes has a safety switch that will not alow a tv to turn on if the door was ajar
