Toshiba Satellite Latop - Keyboard problem when entering password

Hi,

I have a problem with my (1 year old, with Vista Home) Toshiba Satellite laptop. Very recently, when starting up, and getting to windows password screen. All the keys lock, except for the backspace and delete keys. Delete seems to be working fine. Backspace seems to be typing characters.

Then after time the keys start working again, but the problem seems to be getting worse, and occuring more often.

I have unscrewed the keyboard and [gently] tried to clean it, also check connections.

Any ideas?

thanks!

    Hello,

I am also facing the same strange problem with my Toshiba (different model)!
I cannot enter anything to password screen! I used the virtual keyboard to enter to Vista but again, nothing! No key is avalaible!

The only thing I did before this problem was to update Vista.
Also, I removed the battery (using only AC power)
    Do you have any solution???

I'm having a similar issue with a Toshiba Satellite A215 notebook PC. Opened it up to replace the heatsink fan. Once I put it back together the PC boots up fine but randomly on boot-ups both the keyboard and touchpad stop working, on some boot-ups just the touchpad stops working. I have tried updating to Vista SP1 but still the same issue. I think it's an issue with the OS as the keyboard ALWAYS works fine when messing with the BIOS settings. Only once it's in the OS does it act up. This is driving me nuts!!!

I have a very similiar problem to the one described above, however the backspace issue and the addition of random text is not limited to the password screen - it occurs where ever and almost when ever I type now. My laptop is 3 days old and it is driving me absolutely crazy.

My Model is a Satellite Pro L40.

Hi Mitch,

To clear the bios password, we need to reset the CMOS battery that supplies power to BIOS (non-volatile memory). You need to open the laptop and do the following suggested in below picture.

If you have only one login account and you have forgotten the password, you have to re-install vista operating system to login again.

I forget my password

First of all What password are you talking about?

If it is the BIOS-User Password, which comes at the startup then it is a serious problem and you have to go to a nearest service center of toshiba. There they will check your problem & solve it.

Last year the same happened to my laptop, i did my own research and tried many tricks, even i opened my whole laptop on my own but at last i had to report in service center and they replaced my mother-board.

If you don't know the password or have a password reset disk then you will need to restore the operating system with the restore CD that came with the computer.
