MY PRINTER, ESPECIALLY UPON FIRST USE OF THE DAY, WILL PRINT FADED IMAGES OF WHAT'S BEING PRINTED ALONG THE PAGE WHERE NOTHING SHOULD BE PRINTED.

I've been having the same problem, except it happens ALL the time. It reprints, albeit a faded version, of whatever is printed at the top of the page. Especially noticable when using large and/or bold fonts, or when printing color images. A horrible problem. Looks like HP hasn't gotten into producing **** and not willing to support it.

After the warranty period, HP won't provide a solution, unless you agree up front to pay $25.00/hour; with no guarantee that they will be able to resolve the issue. I can understand not providing labor, or parts; but simple advice on what is obviously a common problem? Come on... they should already have a solution printed on their web site acknowledging the problem, and offering a solution, even if it means costly repairs. Sorry, HP your image is no longer the quality I used to expect from you.

I have the same problem. The first few pages printed after a long idle time prints a ghost of the top left image down the left side. It doesn't matter if it's black or color. The color 'ghost' stands out more and is more noticeable than the black image. The spacing between images indicates it's the fuser sleeve. maybe the fuser isn't hot enough after sitting for awhile, or the toner isn't being cleaned off. Any suggestions other than replace all the cartridges?

    Repetitive image defect ruler
Use a repetitive image defect ruler to measure occurrences of repetitive image defects to help solve image quality problems. Place the ruler next to the first occurrence of the defect on the page. Find the distance between identical defects and see the Repetitive image defects table to identify the component that is causing the defect.

Try to put another toner cartridge in. If that didn't work, you will have to replace the fuser assembly.

Printer only prints top and bottom lines on page

All web based documents, especially bank statements, require a COLOUR cartridge, so if your cartridge is empty, it will print blank pages. Although the font may look black... it is normally NOT. Altentaively you may also need to instruct your printer to print "background images".

Does an old PHD cause faded colors?

the PHD transfers the image to the printed page and when it starts to go bad the images can become dull or faded and even blurry or totally missing. Id recommend the PHD be replaced and it should resolve your issues.

Good day, i have a 4730mfp. it does not print colour correctly, the print out appears faded like the printer is out of toner, even after all toners are changed.

First thing to try is this, please go to control panel on the printer and to aministration menu. Scroll down to troubleshooting and find the PQ troubleshooting option and press ok. This will print a series of test prints. If these prints look OK then likely you have an issue with your driver. If they are faded, the second thing you need to do is check to make sure that your firmware revision is current. On the config page that prints with the pages just printed above, look on the upper left for firmware revision. Current version is 46.300.0. Download from here and install following the instruction in the readme file. Did it print OK before changing cartridges? If you installed remanufactured or 3rd party cartridges, the toner will not always provide the same quality of print.

Printing won't work.

Good day sir/maam, hi, when you test print it usually prints letters and no lines are printed. try first if the printer is setup to economy/draft or pictures, if lines are faded, the ink cartridges maybe dirty. manual cleaning is needed, the ink path starts from the ink cartridge to the cradle or carrier then to paper. so any dried ink that blocks the path can affect the printout. you can use warm water to loosen dried ink. remove the cartridges and cradle from the printer as you clean them.
