ok ...all you have to do that those ribons are infact the ide controlers..and in if you take a better look the hard disk has one too.. so the same with this one ...the ide controler goes in the back of the cd rom ...and it has a little sign on the position it should go in ..and the other end on the mother board ..near the one the hard disk is plugged in ...if on your board there is only one ...or they are both already plugged with something ..there are slave plugs on the ribbon ..and you have to put in one of that ..
the other that remain in the end of the back is the power supply ..It has 4 wires..and also has a special shape and will not fit in but with the little base up...(the yellow cable to exterior....
Anyway ..I will look for a photo or something to make it clear..
what you have to keep in mind is that on he cable ...there are written the positions for master and svale..and if you change the position of a device you have to change the jumpers (pin) configuration for that position ..
all devices have a map on them for that ..
But if you have only one hdd and one cd rom ..you just use both as masters(the end of the cable) and use the different plugs on the board..
to be clear ..look where the hard disk is plugged on the board and usually there are 2 of that kind on each mother board..side by side..one is the primary and the other secondary..http://www.fonerbooks.com/r_cd.htmhttp://www.helpwithpcs.com/upgrading/installing_cd_recorder.htm
this will make you an idea..and the general issue is that on the motherboard will be the same kinda plug ..I will illustrate here what to look for ..
remember they can be placed in along and not aside.. for another models..
