go to the windows start button - control panel - sound.
Then take a look a the settings, with the earphones plugged in and out.
Maybe, you have to deactivate the normal sound system, while the earphones are plugged in.
Or maybe you see some settings there to control the outgoing sound.

sounds like the CCD chip is bad. Could be something else as well. How long have you owned the camera? Your best bet is to send it in to an authorized service center. Thanks, Lee
