Question about Whirlpool Duet GHW9150P Front Load Washer

Whirlpool Duet Steam front loader SUD error and F35

I read the suggestions for dealing with these error codes. I have used HE detergent exclusively, and not an excessive amount. I removed the filter and it was pretty clean, but I wiped off a little build up. I pulled off the drain line and blasted through it with a garden hose, but nothing really seemed to be blocking the line. I ran the rinse/spin cycle after re-installing everything. I then ran Normal cycle with no soap and no clothes. The first time I tried a cycle with clothes, the SUD error was back. I'm not sure how to check the pressure switch, which was another recommendation from this site. If anyone has a suggestion, I'd be very appreciative.

The "SUDS" or "SUD" error can be caused by too much detergent, improper detergent, drain pump/drain line problem, or pressure switch malfunction.

1. If you are not using HE detergent, you need to be. These washers are designed to use HE detergent which is formulated for wash tubs that use 5 to 7 gallons of water. If you use regular detergent, you are, in affect, placing a higher concentration of detergent in the washer that is normally formulated for wash tubs that have a 35 gallon capacity. The manufacturer should have a disclaimer in the owner's manual explaining this. In most cases this will also void your warranty. NOTE: Prolonged use of the wrong detergent can damage the drain pump components and or wash tub seals.

If you are using the correct detergent, double check the label to make sure it is not double (2X) or triple (3X) concentrated. You could still be placing too much soap in your wash.

To get rid of excessive detergent, place the washer on a RINSE & SPIN cycle, then run it through a normal wash cycle with NO detergent added. You may have to repeat these steps depending on the amount of detergent used.

2. If you do not have a detergent issue, double check the drain pump and drain lines to ensure they are not obstructed in any way. Click on the following link for step-by-step instructions:

Obstructions in the drain pump and/or drain lines can attribute to air getting trapped in the drain pump and cause the error code. Double check all electrical connections to the drain pump and Central Control Unit (CCU). You will need to remove the top panel of the washer to access the CCU. This is accomplished by removing the three screws in the back of the washer that hold the top panel in place. With the screws removed, slide the panel back, then off. The CCU is located directly behind the wash tub in the center of the washer. The Drain Pump connector will be the 6th connector (facing from the front L to R) in the center of the CCU.

3. Check the Pressure Switch to ensure it is good. The Pressure Switch is located to the right of the CCU as you are looking from the front. It is a small cylindrical shaped device with a connector plug and an air hose attached. The switch can be checked at several water levels by removing the plug and taking resistance readings at the connector pins. Readings are as follows:

(Pins are numbered R to L facing the from the REAR)

Pins 1 to 2 (SUDS Detect) - 0 ohms
Pins 3 to 4 (Overflow) - 0 ohms
Pins 4 to 5 (L1) - 0 ohms
Pins 4 to 6 (Empty) - 0 ohms

We have had the same problem for a couple of weeks. After researching and blowing hoses and disconnecting and reconnecting the pressure switch,,I found out that you can get a few washes when you disconnect the pressure switch and reconnect while waiting for the new part, which we found at Amazon for about 66.00. According to all reviews this new part will take care of the problem. The new switch is AP5264563 . See reviews at Amazon

What does F35 code mean and what to do?

  • Run an empty cycle without using any detergent. Often the fault code displays when too much detergent is used and the detergent sits in the drainage system. A cycle without any detergent is often enough to clear out the buildup.
  • 2 Pull the drain hose out of the standpipe mounted to the wall behind the washing machine. Complete a visual inspection of the hose for any clogs. If you see any, remove the screw that holds the hose clamp onto the discharge pump and then force water through the drain hose with pressurized water from a garden hose. Reattach the hose and then run an empty cycle to see if the code goes away.

I have a whirlpool WFW9600TW01 front load washer. It is giving F35 and SUD error codes. I have cleaned the drain pump and lines, cleaned the dispenser, flow regulator and hoses, took out and cleaned the...

Hi dear.I may have solution for the SUD error. You can give it a go.But I do not know any thing about F35 one
The motor control unit senses a suds lock condition by analyzing the current draw on the drive motor. If “Sud” is displayed a potential suds lock is detected. This may signify a bad pump, an extra heavy load, excessive detergent, or excessive suds.

    Potential Causes

    • If too much detergent was used, run the unit through a Rinse/ Spin cycle then a
Normal cycle without adding any detergent. This should clear the unit of the excess detergent.
    • Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked
    • Check Wire Harness connections to the Drain Pump, Pressure Switch, and Central Control Unit (CCU)
    • Check / Clean Drain Pump Filter of foreign objects
    • Check Drain Pump
    • Check the Pressure Switch
    • Check CCU

    Replace failed component.

As it says run couple of rine cycles it should get back to normal.I hope that helps you.Thanks.

I am getting a sud erroro code

This usually means that you have used an excess of detergent. Front loaders use less detergent as well as less water. Try running the machine without detergent to remove the over supply of detergent in the machine. You may have to physically remove the excess by hand at first. Hope this helps!

Code f35 and sud on washer machine/whirlpool duet front loader

F35 is a water level error.
The water level switch (pressure switch) has malfunctioned.

If you remove the top panel, three screws in the back, you will have access to the pressure switch.

With the tub empty, remove the vinyl hose from the switch and blow backwards through the hose to clear any restrictions.

If the fault codes return after doing this, you will likely need to replace the pressure switch.

Also - please be sure to use He soap.

Whirlpool Duet -Sud displays and washer stops

I;ve had the same problem (SUD on first fill) and found this most helpful for my WFW9600TW01 Duet washer

I duplicated his actions and it cleared up my SUD/F35 error. I think running the diagnostic test multiple times flushes the sensors/sensing lines to eliminate the problem.
