Either the contacts are dirty and need to be cleaned with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol, or there is a faulty capacitor or broken wire internally

IV'E CLEANED ALL CONTACTS LIKE YOU SAID DISMANTLED RADIO DIDNT SEE ANY BURNT PLACES ON BOARD OR BROKEN WIRES COULD THERE BE A PROBLEM WITH FACEPLATE

could be swollen capacitors in the face plate or main deck. When caps go bad, they usually swell up. Sometimes they have burn marks on the board, but not always the case. So do check faceplate and main deck. You can purchase an analog meter or ohmmeter to test the caps, resistors, and power to the faceplate.

The caps that look swollen are the ones that need to be tested, or if you feel like it, test all of them, Each cap has a printed number on it. The printed number is the ohm rating. I don't have a service manual for this, so just look at the number on the caps.

With wires off of the capacitor ( write
down where they go first! )...touch the
cap terminals ( red lead on left and black lead on right )...the needle
    should
move away from the infinity ( probably left side ) and move slightly (
    towards
the right side ) and go back to infinity...reverse leads and ( red lead
    on right
side and black lead on the left side ) on the cap and the needle should
    move
away from infinity even further and then go back to infinity = a good
    cap. (
note - some caps have a built in resistor that you may read

    *This
is the same procedure for checking and air conditioner, refrigerator, washing
    machine capacitor as
    well*

    With the microwave
unplugged, use a metal ( not
the shiny chrome type ) screw
driver with a insulated handle to short across ( touch both at the same
    time ) the
terminals of the high voltage capacitor to discharge it.

This is a common way to do this....

    If the wire terminals
and wires are coated ( not bare
metal) you can use a pair of needle nose pliers with insulated handles
    to
    short/discharge across the capacitor.

    Set your needle meter
to an OHM scale, Example: Rx1

Touch your leads together and 0 ( zero ) out
your meter with the adjustment wheel.

With wires off of the capacitor ( write down where they go first!
    )...touch the
cap terminals ( red lead on left and black lead on right )...the needle
    should
move away from the infinity ( probably left side ) and move slightly (
    towards
the right side ) and go back to infinity...reverse leads and ( red lead
    on right
side and black lead on the left side ) on the cap and the needle should
    move
away from infinity even further and then go back to infinity = a good
    cap. (
note - some caps have a built in resistor that you may read )

( refresh page will start the animate picture again)

If the meter needle goes all the way over to
    the right side and
stays there, then the capacitor is shorted

Need to get the security code for Kenwood KDC-608OR

ok I just found this info online and they say it came from the service manual for that stereo so I hope it helps:

You will need a Kenwood RC-410 remote control. This remote works on KDC-519, KDC-X859, KDC-319, KDC-4019, KDC-MP919, KDC-X759, KDC-419, KDC-X459, KDC-MPV619, KDC-MPV7019, KDC-2022, KDC-2022V, KRC-435, KRC-535 and KDC-X959

To reset the code do the following:

1) Turn on the car.
2) The faceplate rotates out and the CODE - - - - prompt appears.
3) Press >>' and Auto keys simultaneously on the faceplate and hold for 4 seconds. (If the faceplate rotates back into the console push on the upper left top edge of the faceplate and it will flip back around. Press the Eject button and then try it again.)
4) The screen will still say CODE, but the - - - - will disappear! When this happens press the 5 key on the remote twice and it enters a K on the display on the faceplate. Hit the >>' key on the faceplate.
5) Press the 2 key on the remote three times and it enters a C on the display on the faceplate. Hit the >>' key on the faceplate.
6) Press the 2 key on the remote once and it enters an A on the display on the faceplate. Hit the >>' key on the faceplate.
7) Press the 7 key on the remote twice and it enters an R on the display on the faceplate. Hit the >>' key on the faceplate.
8) The radio goes into All Off mode and you are set! Hit the SRC button on the faceplate to select CD, Radio, etc.

Faceplate is not displaying anything.Knobs are ligthing up but no display. What could be wrong?

You have not mentioned how old it is. Some older models of Pioneer and Kenwood use a flat ribbon cable between the face plate and the head unit. Due to the constant opening and closing of the faceplate the ribbon develops a crack and you loose display or some times some functions. Will need professional help to replace the above.

Kenwood KDC-X717 - Facplate opens when powered on, stays open. No display.

I've had this problem before. The ribbon cable needs to be replaced. They wear out every few years. Take it in for service. Or do you want to sell it? I need the face plate for mine.

Faceplate won't close

Alot, of the radios have a common problem with the connection from the radio's2.gif detachable face. What happens is corrosion builds up on the connectors between the pin and the connector itself. Sometimes you can clean it off with a small file. Also, some KENWOODS with the motorized face are known to have a problem with the ribbon cable connecting the face plate to the main board. The last time I repaired one I called KENWOOD2.gif and aquired the cable for about 65 dollars, what the problem is, is the cable is wrapped around a plastic white spindel with a high tension spring and places alot of pressure on the cable from the wear and tear of the face opening and it will cause strange problems such as: turning on and off, some buttons working while others don't, the display partially turning on and off, and the face to act peculiar and flip down halfway. In addition, sometimes the face open and close switches go bad, but I've never had to replace them yet. .

Hi bacbeats,

You nered to clean the contacts on the main unit and the faceplate, evidently you have contamination keeping the power from getting from the main head unit to the faceplate.

Kenwood KDC-715s problem.

the kenwoods with the motorized face platesdevelop one problem with time. the flexable ribbon cable between the main unit & the face plate. as the face open & closes, over time wares out the cable. problem consists of face plate not opening/closing, display missing & and/or some or all buttons not working. note these can also be intermittent problems. typically the part number is located on the cable itself on the side where it pluggs into the main board. since you have a service manual, you should verify it in the manual. good luck.
