1) Log onto Filehippo.com download, install and run Ccleaner. Its free and will clean all the web related garbage off you computer you didn't know was there.

It can also be used to un-install all those programmes you no longer use.

2) Burn your music (mp3) files to DVD or CD. Then delete them from you HDD.

3) Burn all your Photo's to DVD or CD then delete them.

4) Burn all the Documents you wish to keep to CD/DVD then delete them.

Survey your disk contents and archive old data not used regularly. Uninstal programs not used at all.
Remove temporary files (1. [WIndows] cd %temp and del /s *.* 2. [Linux] probably gets deleted every reboot - check in /tmp - from the comand prompt) some files can't be deleted because they are in use.
Open your browser settings and delete all temporary files and history.
If you are sure you are not going to roll back any updates on a WIndows machine remove the directories in the WIndows directory starting with a $

If you still don't have sufficient disk space, add a USB disk drive or an internal one. You will then have to be careful where you install software and save data in future.

Last option is to fit a brand new bigger disk after either recovering the OS or cloning the original disk and amending the partition table.

My acer netbook "D" drive is nearly full

Hello,

Go to your drive C:, right-click, scroll down to "properties".

An option will pop-out. Look towards the down part and select Compress...... Then click "this"< then "OK".

This will compress your hard-drive and give you more space.

I hope you understand this.

Good luck.

MY DATA (D:) IS NEARLY FULL

Hard disk maintenance should be carried once a month to make your computer run efficiently. This removes redundant and temporary files, recovers disk space and speed up hard disk access. Disk Cleanup should be done first - Click My Computer - then right click on the C drive then click Properties, then click Disk Cleanup - let it examine the C drive then it will calculate the amount of disk space it will recover, tick all the boxes to recover the maximum disk space and then Click OK and then Yes to perform these actions. If you have a D drive then repeat these steps on this drive too. Next the C drive needs to be Defrag. This process converts fragmented files into continuous files and this speeds up disk access and makes the hard disk not work as hard. Click on Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Defragmenter - click to highlight the C drive and click Analyse - then click Defragment. Repeat Defrag for the D drive.

I have two hard drives on my computer one is nearly full the other has on a few things on it, but i don't know how to transfer things from the full one to the empty one

Just simply copy any big folders you have on your full drive onto anywhere else on the empty one. Remember to start installing things to the empty one too. Right Click>Copy>Paste onto empty drive.

Start>Computer> You should see your two drives.

No Image after scanning using canon 8000f Windows XP. Can a nearly full hard disk cause this?

I have many years experience repairing Canon scanners so here is my suggestion to you.

Yes a full hard drive can stop the image from being saved to the hard drive but the scanner should still scan the image but not be able to save it to your drive. When you say nearly full hard drive you need some room to save images so if you can try and make some room for these images. Try scanning in preview first that should show you your image without saving it.

I hope this helps you out.
