The problem is the cable from one driver to the other suffers from fatigue due to the bending of the plastic frame as the headphone fits to your head, causing copper cables to disintegrate.

the solution is to take apart the headphones (mini and regular Phillips screwdriver ONLY required) and solder a new cable in. in my case i used a standard coaxial cable for replacement.

once you have split the end of the senheiser cable output from cup 1 into its two parts you need to attach it to the equivalent connections on cup 2 (which u also need to split, i suggest using a modeling knife)

the red wire is insulated with ceramic coating much the same way as an electromagnet winding, the other is standard copper. you must attach copper to copper red to red with YOUR OWN cable.

the most difficult part is removing the ceramic insulation coating on the red wire, which i removed with a blast from a cigarette lighter. simple.

problem is your cable probably will not fit in the slot designed for the previous cable so i drilled a small hole in the BACK of the cup (silver colored horse shoe shape) and ran the cable outside the plastic case. not pretty but it saved me £40 for 2 hours work, which is not bad.

i am a trained mechanical and electrical engineer so u can trust.

Although I'm not an expert I'm not quite sure if armadillopic is right. I had the exact same problem and managed to overcome it by replacing the cable from the headphone to the mini-jack plug. I actually only had to renew the last bit of the cable but chose to replace the entire cable. I found out that when I bend the last part of the cable in the exact right position the strange high pitched sound that was going over the vocals went away and the vocals became much louder and clearer like they normally did. Perhaps you can try if this works for you as well? Just bend the last end of the cable in various kinds of positions (NOT TO EXTREME OR YOU WILL ONLY DAMAGE THE CABLE MORE!). Hope you are able to narrow down the problem to just the cable. Greetings!

Left speaker not working

I don't believe it to be a cable or plug problem, so it sounds like it's a speaker problem. I look up the review of these and it could have some kind of circuit built into each side. If it does it could be that. As they are not cheap headphones by the look of it, perhaps worth repairing. But if the speaker has gone, it might be as much as a new pair.

Sennheiser HD 205 crackle when listening to music

If the crackling occurs only when opening windows or another program, the crackling is not due to the headphones but to a lack of CPU resources in your computer settings.
If you are in Windows 7,
  1. click the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33_818.jpg, and then click Control Panel. In the search box, type Performance Information and Tools, and then, in the list of results, click Performance Information and Tools.
  2. Click Adjust visual effects. 18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b_48.jpg If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

MY sennheiser 205 headphones stopped working overnight. I can hear everything fine, the only thing is that i can barely hear the vocals. I did switch devices to see if that was the problem and it was not....

1) You are turning up the volume too much. Headphones, especially non-top of the line headphones, are not meant to be listened to at very loud levels. In this case, the crackling you are hearing is the speaker trying to reproduce a bass sound that is "clipping", or exceeding the maximum output level for that system. Remember - headphone speakers are very small; they have a harder time producing low sounds accurately. The solution is to just turn them down a little.
2) Assuming problem 1 is not the problem, the other likely issue is that they came with some sort of mechanical defect built in. If you are not playing them loudly, but you are still getting a crackle, especially if it is only on one speaker, they probably are broken. It is probably the jack itself, or the wiring leading up to the earpieces. Either way, it is not a terribly hard fix if you have some electrical know-how, but if you don't, there are plenty of people who can rewire them for much cheaper than it would be to buy a new set. However, if this has been happening since you got them, I would call the manufacturer first and see if they will replace them. Sennheiser tends to pride themselves in the quality of their equipment, so I would not be surprised if they sent you a replacement set.
Hope this helps!

My HD 205 headphones broke last weekend, ive had them for four monthes and when i was listening to music on my ipod touch the headphones sounded like they weren't plugged in properley, i moved the wire...

It sounds like the wires around the jack have become frayed on the inside. If you were to open up the rubber casing around the wires, it would look exactly like that. This is normally caused by improperly wrapping the wires and by not being gentle when plugging them in and removing them. It could be caused by other things, such as electrical damage, but that is much more rare. If you have soldering experience and feel comfortable opening up the rubber casing and working on them, it's not too difficult. You would need to remove the bad portion of the wire and replace it. However, it is just as easy and cost-efficient to have them fixed at an audio repair shop. It should cost no more than $20. Hope this helps!

Sennheiser HD 205 Headphones. My cable has had its fair share of pulls and tugs over time and finally the left ear stop working. By fiddling with the cable i was able to get sound from the left ear, but...

Hi, Ian, If you have soldering experience, you might be able to replace it by yourself. If you remove the portion of the wire that is frayed and replace it with new wiring, it might work. If you feel comfortable doing this, I would say go ahead. However, it might be just as cost-effective to take it to a local audio-repair shop and have them do it. I have had multiple sets rewired myself, and it has cost less than $20 each time. Either way, it should be a relatively easy and cheap fix.

My Sennheiser HD 205 suddenly had a problem with its jack. You have to move its top, nearest to the cord, to get a sound on the other ear, probably it was pulled and something went loose. I spliced it open...

The two copper wires on your headphones are independent grounds for each channel. Twist them together and attach them to the ground cable ( black) of the new plug. The colored wires of the headphone correspond to the live wires of each channel, and the plug should have the same colors. Wiring together the grounds will not affect in any way the stereo separation, it is just that each ear needs its own ground. Cheaper headsets just transfer the ground from one ear to the other one through the metal headband.

Cant hear anything when i answer the phone . the person ringing me can hear fine.

In order to check your mobiles capability to modulate sound just put your headphone. If you are able to hear the speech through headphone then the problem is with your speaker. If unable to get the speech the problem is with main pcb itself and to repair that you will have to go to service center it will be costly but if you are able to hear through headphone then it will be cheap.
