HP Elitebook 6930p, Windows 7 64 Premium Home. After a morning of making Microsoft Updates, the sound volume from my laptop speakers became hardly audible.

Wild guess the updates may have affected old sound card driver. There may be an updated driver for the sound card. I believe Glary utilities free version is providing updated driver information. You may want to try that.

My left side speaker is not working. I plugged in another speaker to the sub output (the plug not working) and got nothing, which proved to me that the speaker wire and speaker itself is not faulty. ...

could be the sound card or its driver. Check your sound properties and make sure the correct set up is selected like 2.1, 5.1 adn 7.1. Verify that the volume levels are balanced, and if nothing helps, reinstall the video driver first. If this does not resolve it, might be a good idea to test the speakers on another system just to confirm they are all ok. If that works, you may need to get a new sound card, or test the card on another computer if possible to confirm if it is at fault. Hope this would be helpful to you.

Audio device

1. check the volume control in the Windows task bar ( the speaker icon)
2.check to see the volume slider is at zero also look at mute box ( take the check out if it is checked).
2. check the speaker volume control knob to see what lever you have it set.
3.check the cable to the input port on the sound card in the PC to see if you have it seated in the port all the way.
4. if you still don't have sound reload you drivers for the sound card
5. go to the "Control panel" click the Hardware and sound" hyperlink. This will bring you to the "device manager" link click here then you will see the list of device connect to you PC mother board.
6. click the "sound ,video and game controller" arrow to the left ( this will expand this catagory). You should now see you sound card listed.
7. right click on this listing and a screed with tabs will appear click the "Driver" tab then you will see captions such as update drivers etc. click update drivers then click OK or apply. You PC will then attempt update the drivers for the sound card and replace the "DLL" (dynamic link libraries) to couple the driver with the Windows Operating system files.
8. Your sound card sound then work properly.
9. to check go in the the "volume controll and click properties and you will see a screen that states ( this device is working properly).
I hope this helps your issue.

Try external speakers. If they work, the soundcard is OK.

I have a HP windows XP sound sysyems nt working though speakers are ok . wht do i do ?

Hey, try connecting a headphone to your computer and check if you get sound through it.If yes then there is some problem with the speakers. If not then either the sound card on the computer is not working or you need to reinstall the driver software for the sound card.

Please rate, if it helps.

Audigy 4 Pro no longer works with latest driver set from Creative

Hi
it will be a little bit long prosses , but lets start after you finished , let me know, if problem is solved or exist,
as you know the best soloution is to have cd that it came with your pc or your sound card.
but i assume you don't have it,
updating the driver ,doesn't mean it always make is better(they are spose to be ) so you had to roll back as soon as you saw the problem. is ok
1- go to windows update ,chose custom , look at left panel to see if windows offer hardware update , is so(your soundcard might be one of them) download them and restar your pc.
if it did not solve ,
first make restoration point on your system restoration(please don't forget)
uninstal driver make sure ther is nothing left from your sound card.
turnoff your pc , disconect the power and open your pc , take the soundcard out , turn on your pc . and turn it off now instal your sound card ,back , start pc , windows should pickup your sound card ,
please let me know if these steps did help ,if not post what was theresult for more assistanse
thanks ,Marco

5.1 SPEAKER SETTINGS CHANGE AT EVERY RESTART

having multiple os's should not effect the settings it sounds like something directly related to the software you all are running for the surround. what is this sofware and is it updated, does it belong to the sound card or the speaker setup ?

Sound Starts on Then Goes Off Randomly

I actually fixed the problem. It was a driver issue. Try this with your sound card program. I opened up the program in charge for sound. In my case it was soundmax. And pressed the load defaults button and clicked apply and everything started working again. The same thing happened again after a while so I pressed defaults again and it worked. But It happened again so I uninstalled the drivers and updated them. Everything was fine after that. Now I have a problem with my registry.lol

Hope it helps.

Microphone not working, but speakers and sound is working.

First off, if they can hear you and you can't hear them, it's not your microphone. It is more likely related to your sound card, possibly a driver update could fix your issue. Go to Toshiba's support site here's the link for the portege model listed above: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modelLanding.jsp?ProductMenu_0=Portables&ProductMenu_1=Portege&model_find=S100-S1133&ProductMenu_2=1042298&moid=1042298&rpn=PPS10U&smoid=true&ct=MH&ListType=Model&x=27&y=7, and select drivers and look for the sound card drivers with the latest/most recent date, download them and update your driver to see if that fixes your issue.
Since you post that your sound works in other areas just not chat or Skype, you might also want to do a Windows update on their site and choose custom for your choice so you can review hardware and software updates to add to any critical/security updates found on your PC, and that may fix your issue also.
Good luck.
