Try another monitor on your computer, if the 2nd monitor does the same thing then you know its an issue with your computer cause it has no video output. At that point try reseating your memory one stick at a time in each slot one at a time with trying to turn on the computer after each memory reseat.

If you do get video on the 2nd monitor then that means your original monitor is bad and would need to get replaced.

Dell Inspirion 546 screen keeps going black

It sounds like a hardware fault, does it happen when the laptop is cold or does it start to go faulty after its been on a while, if it goes faulty after its been on a while, its more than likely that the fan cooler is all blocked up with dust, and will need to be cleaned. Hope this helps.

Monitor goes blank less than a second after turning on.

Sounds like either there is a bad connection from the computer to the monitor, or the monitor has a faulty power regulator, causing the monitor to overheat prematurely, and shut off.

Tom, try connecting a KNOWN GOOD monitor to your PC. If it works fine for 2 hrs and will recover from "time-out" then I would think that the monitor is having a problem with it's backlighting system. Have you had any problem with black screen while doing constant keyboard and mouse movement? Try adjusting time-out settings under "Control Panel" then "Display" then "Power" and select not to turn off monitor. See if that fixes the problem. 12fixlouie

No display

Do you have an separate VGA card to try and then hook your monitor up to this card.
Actually does the rest of the PC work. Powers up fine and and keyboard and mouse seem to work?

First, power off all devices and monitor.
Second. disconnect all devices from the PC and Monitor.
Please make sure the monitor is disconnected from it power source.
Next, hook up monitor to PC and start PC, along with monitor.
