Network security key is almost similar to a password. The network administrator set the key.In case you have a personal router logon to 192.168.1.1 on your browser addressbar.Got to Wireless security on the router configuration page.the network key can be edited from there.

To connectyour computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh networklist, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connectto your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Keybefore allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This NetworkKey is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is used toconfigure the Wireless Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way tosetup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrasethat was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_addressFor information on securing your wireless network, configuring the wireless router and configuring the wireless card in thelaptop/computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

Not able to find wep code to connect my lap top to internet

Hello,
If you require the WEP key for the wireless network you will have to log in to the router interface and retrieve it. You can try the following steps..
1) Open internet explorer on any computer connected wired to the router. ( IF no computer is connected then connect your laptop through an Ethernet cable to the LAN slot on the router) 2) Delete everything from the address bar and type http://192.168.2.1 and hit enter. 3) Towards the left side under wireless click on security. 4) Now it will ask for the login password, do not type anything..just hit enter. 5) Now you will be in wireless security page. You should see Key 1, Key 2, Key 3 and Key 4. The check mark selected on either of the four with number or numbers and letters in it are the password. Make a note of it. 6) Now connect to the wireless network using the keys u made a note of.
Hope this helped.

Acquiring network address

all that you need to do is to delete the preferred networks list from the computer,
and try to scan and connect to the network again....make sure that you are typing the correct security key.
still if the problem exixts, then add the network manually...the problem will get off for sure....
also if there is any facility like wi-fi protected security is enabled in the wireless router, go ahead and disable it...

I have a wpn824-2 and I am trying to set up a connection from my lap top. It is asking me for a network key or wep key. Where do I find it?

You can get the WEP or Network Security Key from the Router.

Login to the Router as follows (make sure that it is connected to the Computer using LAN-Wired connection):

1. Start the Web Browser like Internet Explorer or Firefor or Safari.

2. Type 192.168.1.1 as the URL.

3. Type "admin" as user name and as "password" as password.

4. Go to the "Wireless Settings" option.

5. Set the Wireless Network Password (either WEP or WPA key) will be listed next to Security Encryption.

You may also use any third party utility to get the Wireless Security key save in the Computer (in which wireless connection is working and key is saved).

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a TP-LINK router and atp-link usb cnection to my lap top.I have made the router secure, now my lap top(Vista)is asking me for user name and password whic is fine but its also asking me ''log on...

You can bypass that asking for information step. Simply go to Network and Sharing Center > Manage Wireless Connection > clik Add > select Add a Network in Range of Computer > then select your wireless network and connect. It will then prompt you to type your wireless network key. You should be good to go after that.

When connecting to my home wifi with my lap top i loose conection every 4 or 5 minutes

What type of modem or hub are you using? Could be firewall shutting down connection, or some else using your connection if the wireless network isn't secured with a WPA or WEP key(password). Let me know to solve your problem.

Internect connecting

If the laptop was connecting wirelessly before and you didn't change the wireless security key on the router during your troubleshooting steps with the ISP then it should just reconnect. If it doesn't reconnect you should probably delete the wireless profile that's saved and try connecting again. When you delete the wireless profile you will have to enter the security key again. Make sure you have this information handy.

If you are uncertain what the wireless security key is use your desktop that is physically connected to the router to log into the router and reset the security key.

To log onto the router you need to know the routers IP Address. You can obtain that information through the following:

START MENU
RUN
Type CMD
Click OK
Type IPCONFIG
Hit Enter
Look for the default gateway. The default gateway is the IP Address of the router. By default the IP is 192.168.1.1.

Type whatever IP Address you discovered into the address bar of your web browser (Internet Explorer for most) and hit enter.

You will be prompted for a login. If you didn't change the default login information to the router it should be a blank username and the word: admin - as the password.

Navigate to the wireless settings and reset the security key.

From your laptop key in the new network key.

Hope this helps.
