Hi

u can also try to see if u can find it in control panel--> administrative tools--> computer management--> storage--> disk management.....
if it is there it will be highlighted black and marked as unallocated right click on it and create a new partition after that it will automatically format itself

enjoy

New hard drives are "Raw" and have to be formated for any Operating system to recognize it. If the Hard drive is installed I would suggest, if you have a Win98 cd, boot from that, select with cd rom support, at the prompt type in fdisk, Fdisk will display all fixed disks present, select your new HD and configure it, with large disk support, etc.

If you don't have a win98cd download GParted live cd and burn on cd. and boot with that it will display all hard drives and you can select your new HD and format it to fat 32 or ntfs or linux ext partitions/swap files.

I just plugged my LaCie hard drive into a PC with a USB cable (not sure of the name of the specific cable - it's the smallest, not firewire, USB on one end, a small circular end on the other that plugs...

Try a different USB jack. If it still doesn't appear you probably have to format it for Windows.
To do this, right-click on My Computer, go to Manage, then choose Disk Management.
The disk should appear there. You'll have to format it for Windows in order to use it.

My computer has stopped recognising the driver for a 500gb Lacie Premier Multimedia Hard disk. It appears as 'Unknown device". how do i locate and replace the driver.

Most USB accessories do not get recognized well when plugged in before startin the computer. The exception seems to be mice. USB hadr drives and flash drives specially seem to have this problem. I always use the disconnect icon in the system tray to disconnect before shutdown and plug them in after windows has stabilized. I even gets worse if you use a USB hub. Some devices will not be recognized when attached to a hub.

My lacie Big disk 500GB drive will not mount

If Lacie does a kind of tickling noise that is the disk head. It means the disk is faulty.

I will post this on main thread.
